On Friday, October 11, 2024, the Epe Division Professional Women Association (EPWA), led by former president Mrs. Opeluwa Balogun, extended a hand of support to the Ibeju-Lekki General Hospital through the donation of essential medical supplies.

This initiative was part of the activities for EPWA’s 9th Annual General Meeting and Retreat held at the Lagos Palm Beach Resort, Idado, Debojo town, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The donated items, including hospital wear and other supplies, were based on the hospital’s specific needs. Mrs. Balogun explained the motivation behind the gesture: “The retreat brought us here to share our widow’s mite with those in need. Our primary aim is to empower the girl child, ensuring their success in education and other fields. We also extend our outreach to local council development areas (LCDAs) in the Epe Division, providing medical and empowerment programs for women.” She added, “One of your staff, Mrs. Olusesi, is a member of our association, and she has consistently encouraged us to support the hospital.”

Expressing gratitude, Medical Director/CEO Mrs. I.M.E. Okon applauded the association’s efforts and encouraged them to continue identifying key areas to enhance healthcare. “When I see such remarkable professional women, I am always very excited,” she said. “I’m happy that you are eager to contribute to the progress of the hospital.”

Mrs. Okon also highlighted challenges facing the hospital, particularly the impact of ongoing infrastructure developments like the construction of the superhighway and the Dangote refinery road, which have left the facility exposed after the fencing was brought down.

She appealed to EPWA members to assist in the hospital’s transformation, noting, “Since Epe General Hospital has become a Federal Medical Center, there is an opportunity to improve facilities like the children’s ward, female and male wards, accident and emergency unit, and even the theater. You could consider naming these projects after your association, taking them one step at a time.”

The event saw active participation from EPWA members and key hospital staff, underscoring a collaborative spirit aimed at strengthening healthcare services and fostering community development.
