As the Eid-il-Adha celebrations are held today, kakalistiq.com reports that the President of the Epe Professional Women Association (EPWA), Mrs. Opeoluwa Balogun, along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration)of Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Professor Basirat Oladipupo, and community leader Alhaja Rasakat Tobun, are calling on women to uphold strict hygiene practices to combat the deadly cholera outbreak in Lagos State.
In a phone interview on Saturday, the influential Amazons emphasized the critical role of women in maintaining household hygiene and safeguarding their families’ health during the festive season.
“With the festive activities of Eid-il-Adha, it is imperative that we, as women, take proactive steps to ensure cleanliness and prevent the spread of cholera,” Mrs. Balogun stated. “Simple measures such as boiling water before use, properly washing hands with soap, and ensuring the cleanliness of food and cooking utensils can save lives.”
Professor Oladipupo echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of education and awareness in combating the outbreak. “Knowledge is our most powerful tool in this fight against cholera. We must educate our communities about the symptoms and prevention methods. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that this celebration does not turn into a tragedy.”
