In preparation for the monumental 70th anniversary of Epe Grammar School, kakalistiq.com reports that the oldest secondary institution in the Epe Division, the Epe Grammar Old Students Association (EGOSA) has kicked off celebrations with royal blessings. Led by their National President, Alhaja Olushola Kehinde Alade-Raji (Ibishomi), the team began by playing homage to the Olu-Epe of Epe, HRM Oba (Dr.) Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, at his palace.
“The purpose of this visit is to honor our Royal Fathers, who have been custodians of our heritage. It would be a great disregard to celebrate such a momentous event without seeking their blessings,” Mrs. Alade-Raji expressed, while addressing Oba Adewale.
In response, the Olu-Epe of Epe commended the school’s legacy, noting its transformational roles in shaping the division. “Epe Grammar School has always led the way in academic excellence. I would have been an alumnus myself if youthful exuberance had not taken me to Ibadan,” the monarch reflected with a smile. “But even in the Lagos State Civil Service, I have always been proud of the Epe Grammar School alumni leaders in their fields.”
Encouraging the Old Students Association, Oba Adewale urged them to maintain the school’s sterling reputation, while also extending their efforts to current students. “Continue the laudable work for your alma mater. The school’s legacy is in your hands, and you are doing a remarkable job,” the monarch stated before offering his royal blessings for the anniversary celebrations.
During the week, the association’s next stop took them to the palace of HRM Oba Sulaiman Adeshina Adebowale, the Omola of Odomola kingdom. During the September 18, 2024 visit, the Omola, along with his chiefs, expressed pride in the school’s enduring legacy.
The Omola himself was quick to commend the Old Students Association. “Your visit shows not only leadership but also deep respect for the royal institutions. It is no surprise that you represent the oldest and indeed the best,” Oba Adebowale declared.
Promising his unwavering support, he assured the association of his presence at the Grand Finale, signaling full royal endorsement.
“My daughter is a proud graduate of Epe Grammar School, and she has excelled in life, thanks to the quality education she received there,” one of the Omola’s chiefs shared on behalf of the royal household.
The upcoming 4-day celebrations in November 2024 promise to be a grand affair, steeped in history, pride, and royal support. With both the Olu-Epe and the Omola of Odomola offering their blessings, the 70th anniversary of Epe Grammar School is poised to be a fitting tribute to seven decades of excellence.
Among those in attendance were the Secretary-General, Engr. Taiwo Mutiu Musa, and other distinguished old students, including Alhaja Kudirat Alaka, Mr. Moshood Kayode Awe, High Chief Odedeogboro (the Balogun of Epe Kingdom), and High Chief Shobaloju (the Sarumi of Epe Kingdom). Representing Odomola were High Chief Olisa, Alhaji Yesiru Ali, and High Chief Agbon, Adepase Adisa, among others.
