This transformation is driven by the bold conversion of Epe General Hospital into a Federal Medical Center (FMC), alongside an array of healthcare upgrades that promise to elevate the division’s medical landscape.
Speaking at the landmark event held at Landmark Event Center, Otunba Anomo praised the collaborative efforts of the Lagos State and Federal Governments, congratulating the people of Epe and Lagos for this monumental progress. “Epe is on the cusp of becoming a key destination for medical tourism,” he enthused, highlighting the ongoing development of a 1,250-bed mental health facility in Ketu-Ereyun, a new College of Nursing, and the recently established Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (FEDCAM) in Igboye.
Prominent figures, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and First Lady Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, were in attendance as the Lagos State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude, emphasizing that the transformation of the Epe General Hospital into FMC marks a new era of accessible and specialized healthcare for residents.
The new FMC, Epe, is set to provide cutting-edge services ranging from advanced surgical procedures, such as open-heart surgeries, to specialized care in nephrology, orthopaedics, and paediatrics, with a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and trauma center. It will also serve as a teaching hospital, with a School of Nursing opening next year.
In a push to bolster emergency services, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the elevation of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to a full-fledged agency, with the goal of improving trauma response times and healthcare outcomes across the state.
Adding to the list of developments, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, announced plans for FEDCAM to collaborate with FMC, offering specialized training in alternative medicine fields such as acupuncture and homeopathy.
With these transformations underway, Epe Division is positioning itself as a premier destination for both Nigerian and international patients seeking world-class healthcare, setting the stage for a future where medical tourism flourishes in Lagos State.
