Epe Honours Exceptional Teachers, Leaders with Awards, Accolades on World Teachers’ Day.

The atmosphere was thick with appreciation and hope for the future, as the union hosted an inspiring event filled with powerful speeches, a thought-provoking lecture, and well-deserved awards.

At the NUT Multipurpose Hall, Epe, the event kicked off with an inspiring address from the Branch Chairman, Comrade Sanni Shakiru Olatunji, who set the tone for the day by recognizing the indispensable role of teachers in shaping the future.

His voice vibrated with emotion as he addressed the audience: “Today, we gather to celebrate the tireless efforts, dedication, and passion of our teachers. You are the backbone of our education system, and your impact on our lives cannot be overstated.” It was a moment of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to the noble cause of education.

The day’s celebration, which included a captivating lecture by Dr. AbdulKareem Onakoya from Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), did not shy away from the pressing issues facing the teaching profession. Dr. Onakoya highlighted the urgent need for better remuneration, continuous professional development, and improved ICT compliance in schools. “Our teachers deserve not just words of praise but systems that support their work,” he declared, emphasizing that the future of education depends on tangible investment.

A significant highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to education in the Epe Division. These included Rep. Wale Raji, representing the Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Dr. (Mrs.) Oyetola Idowu Olufunke, Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District III; and Mrs. Muinat Adebanjo, Principal of Lagos State Senior Model College, Agbowa Ikosi, among others.

Comrade Sanni lauded the awardees, stating, “Your passion and commitment to education have earned you this recognition. This award is a testament to your hard work, dedication, and love for teachers.”

The awards ceremony, a mix of applause and heartfelt speeches, celebrated not just the recipients but the collective achievements of teachers across the division.

Throughout the event, the spirit of unity and love was palpable. Comrade Sanni, in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude to key stakeholders in Epe Division, including Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru and Rep. Wale Raji, for their unwavering support of education.
