kakalistiq.com reports that a respected youth leader and political development advocate, Mr. Hassan Bashir O. (popularly known as General Bashexy), has added his voice to the growing call for development-focused governance in Lagos State, urging newly elected Chairmen across Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to embrace their roles with humility, competence, and a sincere commitment to impact.

In a bold and heartfelt statement titled “A Sincere Word to the Newly Elected Chairmen of LGs and LCDAs in Lagos State”, Mr. Bashir congratulated the new crop of council leaders, describing their emergence as a clear reflection of public trust and high expectations.
“Congratulations to all newly elected Chairmen,” he began. “Your victory is no small feat and should be rightly acknowledged. But beyond the celebration, there is a need for sober reflection.”
Speaking as a committed party loyalist and development enthusiast, Mr. Bashir made it clear that his message was not directed at any specific individual or political group, but to every local government chairman elected in the state.
“I have been loyal to the party through thick and thin. But loyalty is not silence. Loyalty is honesty. And the honest truth is that not all who have been elected are fully prepared for the office they now occupy,” he stated.
He stressed that admitting this gap in capacity is not an insult but a reality that must be accepted with maturity and a willingness to grow.
Considering his position on leadership where he remarked that leadership should epitomize Impact rather than titles, Mr. Bashir urged the newly elected leaders to focus on the real challenges confronting their people at the grassroots, bad roads, poor healthcare, inadequate schools, unemployment, insecurity, and the widening gap between government and the governed.
“Leadership at the grassroots isn’t about photo ops or slogans. It’s about smart and hard work. It requires a working brain and a working heart,” he emphasized. “You will need to learn fast. But more importantly, you must lead with conscience.”
In his call for introspection and action,
Bashir advised the Chairmen to engage in self-assessment and surround themselves with competent individuals to help drive meaningful change. He posed critical questions they must ask themselves: Where do I lack capacity? Who do I need to help me succeed? What legacy do I want to leave behind?
“A true leader doesn’t pretend to know everything,” he added. “This office is not a reward, it is a responsibility. It will either raise your name or reduce it.”
While acknowledging that many of the elected officials may have ridden on the strength of the party to victory, Mr. Bashir stressed that now that they are in office, they must rise to the task at hand.
“Some of you were elected because of the party, not necessarily your individual capacity. But now that you’re here, there is no excuse. Lagos is too strategic. The expectations are too high. If you’re unsure of what to do, ask. Build a team. Seek advice. But do not hide behind praise-singers while your people suffer.”
He concluded his message with a powerful reminder: “This is not an attack. It’s a wake-up call. From one loyal party member to all elected Chairmen: Do better. Be better. Lagos is watching. The party is watching. And history will remember.”
Mr. Bashir O. Hassan currently serves as a Senior Legislative Aide and is widely respected for his grassroots engagement, political insights, and passion for youth inclusion and local development.
