Eid-il-Kabir: LASUBEB Chair Urges Lagosians to Embrace Values of Sacrifice, Obedience and Selflessness in Building Future Leaders

kakalistiq.com reports that the Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, has extended warm greetings to all Lagosians, with a special message to school children and their families on the deeper lessons the festival brings.

In a statement, Dr. Shittu highlighted the story of Prophet Ibrahim, whose unwavering obedience to God and willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice continue to inspire generations. He said these timeless values, obedience, sacrifice, and selflessness, are not only religious teachings but also foundational principles for building a responsible and progressive society.

Speaking directly to the future of Lagos, Dr. Shittu emphasized that school children are the true pillars of tomorrow’s development. “The spirit of Eid-il-Kabir reminds us all, especially our young ones, that greatness is born out of doing the right thing, even when it’s hard,” he said. “Whether it’s obeying your parents, listening to your teachers, or making sacrifices to pursue your dreams, every choice you make today shapes the future of our communities.”

He stressed the need for a united effort by parents, religious leaders, and academic scholars to instill these values in children early on. “It is not enough to speak about values; we must live them and pass them on deliberately,” he added.

According to Dr. Shittu, the Lagos State Government, through LASUBEB, has taking bold steps to upscale moral and character education into the school system. “We are reshaping our curriculums to be more flexible and holistic, ensuring that alongside literacy and numeracy, our children are learning empathy, discipline, and community spirit,” he explained.

He noted that the goal is to raise not just academically sound children, but emotionally intelligent, morally upright, and community-driven individuals who will serve as future nation builders.

Dr. Shittu urged families to make the most of this festive season by reflecting on its meaning and having open conversations with their children about why character and faith matter in everyday life.

“As we celebrate Eid-il-Kabir, let us all remember that true celebration is not only in the feasting, but in how we carry the lessons of this season into our daily lives,” he concluded.

The Chairman reaffirmed LASUBEB’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded learners across Lagos State, ensuring that no child is left behind in the mission to build a stronger, value-driven society.
