kakalistiq.com reports that the Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, along with his team, conducted an inspection of the recently cleared Labora-Owode canal today.
The tour, which included key officials such as Vice Chairman Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji and Secretary to the Local Government Hon. Adewale Adebanjo, aimed to assess the progress of the canal clearance and its impact on surrounding communities.
According to Akadiri Ayorinde, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, the inspection extended to areas like Gbetu and the Container bus stop, where Hon. Olowa engaged with residents. The inspection revealed that unauthorized individuals had erected barriers along the canal, obstructing the free flow of water.
“We are calling on residents to follow the environmental laws and avoid practices that harm the ecosystem,” said Hon. Olowa during a press briefing. “We’ve seen commendable efforts by many in keeping their communities clean, and I urge everyone to maintain that momentum.”
Hon. Olowa assured the community that the state government would soon step in to provide further assistance, promising that flooding would become a thing of the past in the area. “The State’s intervention is imminent, and we will ensure that flooding will no longer pose a threat to Ibeju Lekki,” he added.
