Adeshina popularly known as WADESH, highlighted the debate competition as part of his administration’s broader vision to foster a culture of academic excellence in public schools. “This debate program is designed to sharpen the reasoning, eloquence, and critical thinking of our students. By fostering healthy competition, we are preparing these young minds to excel in life, equipping them with the skills needed to engage with the world competently and effectively,” he added.
The chairman praised the students for their dedication and courage throughout the competition, which he described as the culmination of months of rigorous intellectual engagement. “These students have demonstrated brilliance, and their participation sets them apart as exceptional individuals with a promising future. I urge them to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, knowing that their efforts have distinguished them.”
Adeshina also announced the rewards for the winners, with the first-place team receiving ₦500,000 and a laptop, the second-place team earning ₦300,000 and a laptop, and the third-place team taking home ₦200,000 and a laptop. He extended his gratitude to corporate bodies and individuals who supported the event, acknowledging contributions from Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Hon. Babajimi Benson, and Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye.
HRM Oba Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, echoed the chairman’s sentiments in an interview, praising the local government’s efforts in championing educational development. “We are proud of the leadership strides being made here in Ikorodu. The legacy we are building is one of progress, and we are positioning our children for success,” the monarch remarked.
He also emphasized the importance of instilling positive values in the youth. “We want to encourage our pupils, our future leaders, to understand the value of education. This event is part of ensuring they get the message right, and we have spoken to them about avoiding drugs and cultism, urging them to be good ambassadors of Ikorodu Kingdom.”
In a heartfelt appeal to parents, Oba Shotobi urged them to continue investing in their children’s education. “Today, parents have seen the value of their money in their children’s achievements. We ask them not to relent in their efforts, but to place a premium on education rather than extravagant parties. Education is the greatest gift they can give.”
The event concluded with applause for all participants and organizers, marking another milestone in Ikorodu’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders through education.
