The Bursar of Lagos State University (LASU), Mr. Said Babatunde Olayinka, FCA, has been recognized with the Southwest Nigeria Leadership in Financial Compliance and Accountability Award, celebrating his exceptional dedication to financial transparency and accountability.
The award ceremony took place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Ibadan Civic Center, and was organized by Global Skills Hub in collaboration with the Southwest Nigeria Excellence Award.
Mr. Olayinka, visibly delighted, dedicated the award to God, his family, and his colleagues, appreciating their unwavering support throughout his career. Reacting to the development, he said:
“This award is a testament to the collective effort of my team and the entire LASU community. I am humbled that our work is being recognized. It inspires us to keep raising the bar in accountability and financial excellence.”
Born on June 26, 1968, in Surulere, Lagos, Mr. Olayinka is a seasoned financial expert with over 36 years of experience in university administration and accounting. He began his career at LASU in 1986 as a Clerical Assistant and steadily rose through the ranks to become the University’s Bursar in June 2018.
Over the years, he has served in various roles within the Bursary Department and Directorate of Internal Audit, including as Director of Internal Audit before his current appointment.
A well-rounded academic, Mr. Olayinka holds multiple qualifications, including:
OND and HND in Accounting from Yaba College of Technology; B.Sc. in Accounting Education, Postgraduate Diploma in Planning Studies, and an MBA, all from LASU.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a member of other professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Management.
Known for his integrity, dedication, and leadership, Mr. Olayinka has served on over 30 university committees, and has 28 awards to his name from various institutions and organizations.
This latest recognition highlights Mr. Olayinka’s pivotal role in ensuring financial compliance, promoting best practices in public finance, and contributing to the growth of LASU, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s top universities.
