LASUED Student Dies in Tragic Accident, NANS Calls for Transport Reform.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has confirmed the death of a Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) student following a tragic accident along the Ibeju-Lekki axis of the Epe-Ajah expressway on Monday.

The student, Comrade Binuyo Kaosara Bisola from the College of Specialized Education, was one of five students involved in the incident. She succumbed to her injuries and was laid to rest on Tuesday in accordance with Islamic rites.

In a condolence message, the NANS Joint Campus Committee for Lagos expressed its profound grief and extended sympathies to Bisola’s family, friends, and the entire LASUED community. The statement included prayers for the deceased and her grieving loved ones.

The student body also commended the LASUED management for its “maturity, care, and support” in handling the situation.

Moving beyond condolences, NANS issued a strong call to action, urging Lagos State transportation agencies, including LASTMA, LASDRI, VIS, and the NURTW, to strengthen oversight on driver conduct, vehicle roadworthiness, and commuter safety. The statement highlighted “reckless driving and poorly regulated commercial transport operations” as primary causes of preventable road mishaps involving students.

The group urged these agencies to enforce stricter safety compliance to prevent future tragedies. NANS also called on student drivers to prioritize safety by adhering to traffic regulations and avoiding reckless behavior.
