Dr. Ipesu Fredrick, Head of the Accounting Department at Pan-Atlantic University, expressed joy and satisfaction at the outstanding performance of his students during the event held today, Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Noforija Town Hall, Noforija, Epe, Lagos State.
Dr. Ipesu commended the organizing committee for providing a fair and competitive platform for students to showcase their knowledge and skills. He emphasized that the university’s commitment to excellence in education, coupled with the dedication of its lecturers, has contributed to the success of its students in academic competitions such as this.
Highlighting the department’s approach to education, Dr. Ipesu underscored the importance of blending academic rigour with practical industry experience. He emphasized the significance of preparing students for accounting by providing theoretical knowledge and real-world exposure.
Dr. Ipesu further encouraged young students to consider pursuing a career in accounting, emphasizing the vast opportunities available in both the private and public sectors. He stressed the importance of upholding ethical standards and professionalism in accounting, noting that practitioners play a crucial role in driving economic development.
“It is a profession you will never regret. At the end of the day, you can work as an accountant, an auditor, a tax consultant as well as a lecturer. The opportunities in the field are enormous and you can even be on your own as well. So, my advice to young ones who are interested in this noble profession is to take the opportunity in the financial world,” he stated.
In response to their victory, Miss Ugwumadu Francis Kelechi, the contest champion, expressed gratitude to her lecturers, parents, and friends for their support and encouragement. She emphasized the importance of thorough preparation and dedication in achieving success in academic competitions. “It is not truly easy to prepare for such a competition because you never know where the questions are to come from. So, it is all about trying to study as much as you can and hope for the best,” she said.
Similarly, Ayomikun Owope, the first runner-up from Pan-Atlantic University, highlighted the significance of the ICAN program in preparing students for success. He encouraged his peers to view accounting as a noble career path, emphasizing the potential for passion and fulfilment in the field. “Accounting is seen by many as potentially boring but as long as you have the drive, you can always find the passion in it,” he averred.
