Kakalistiq.com reports that the KLM Housing Estate in Epe witnessed a gathering of Lagos State’s political heavyweights as they paid tribute to Alhaja Ramota Bankole, the former APC State Welfare Secretary, who passed away while performing hajj in Mecca on June 20, 2024. The solemn 8th-day fidau prayers brought together family, friends, and well-wishers to honour her memory.
Representing the Governor of Lagos State, Chief of Staff Mr. Tayo Ayinde delivered a heartfelt condolence message, pledging unwavering support from the state government. “On behalf of the Governor of Lagos State and the good people of Lagos State, I commiserate with the family, the children, and the husband. We will stand by you,” Ayinde assured, reflecting on Alhaja Bankole’s dedicated service to Epe Local Government, the APC, and Lagos State at large.
“Since I heard it from the holy land, I haven’t been myself even up till now when Hon Jebe Abdulahi called me because Alhaja was very close to me, very dear to me. This crowd that you see here will not be with you forever, but Lagos State is going to stand by you. Whatever you want, please feel free to come and meet me,” Ayinde emphasized.
Acknowledging the presence of various stakeholders, Ayinde noted that the large turnout was a testament to Alhaja Bankole’s good deeds during her lifetime. He recalled her loyalty and defence of him in times of adversity. “We are very happy that she has lived a good life, and that’s why we can see this large number of people honouring her family,” he stated.
Echoing the sentiments of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Ayinde stressed the importance of a life well-lived over its length. “Touch people’s lives and stand for good things. Take lessons from the sermon,” he urged the gathering.
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa expressed his sympathy, describing Alhaja Bankole as a dedicated and loyal sister to the party. Emphasizing self-reflection and moral integrity, Mr Speaker advised, “You have to judge yourself, don’t allow someone to judge you. Ask yourself if you are right, if you have done something good for others. Continue to ask yourself every day. Listen to others; let them continue to pass comments about you, about your deeds. If you hear good things, you are on the right path. If you hear bad comments, look inwards and adjust your lifestyle.”
LASUBEB Chairman, Hon. Hakeem Shittu, representing the Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, in an interview after visiting the family, expressed regret for the Deputy Governor’s absence due to state duties. He described Alhaja Bankole as not just a political associate but a cherished neighbour. “Her absence is deeply felt, but her legacy of kindness and commitment endures,” he stated.
Mr. Lekan Odukomaya, representing former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, praised Alhaja Bankole for her tireless dedication to the state’s progress. “As a member of the state party executives, she worked tirelessly to promote the values and goals that we all hold dear. Her leadership and ambition have left an indelible mark on our political landscape,” he remarked.
The 8th-day fidau was marked by prayers for the departed, musical interludes, lectures and expressions of solidarity from the political elite, underscoring Alhaja Bankole’s lasting impact on Lagos State. Her legacy of service, loyalty, and compassion continues to inspire, as the community mourns the loss of a remarkable leader.
