Kakalistiq.com reports that there was palpable excitement at the Council Secretariat in Igando Oloja as Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, celebrated retirees who dedicated years of their lives to government service.
In his address, Hon. Olowa emphasized the ongoing value of retirees’ experiences, remarking that retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in the professional lives of retirees, but it is also the beginning of a new journey. He noted that the wealth of experience acquired over the years is invaluable to the Local Government, the State, and the country at large.
Hon. Olowa further acknowledged the retirees’ profound impact on Ibeju-Lekki. “You have left indelible marks through groundbreaking projects, mentorship of younger employees, and the excellence you brought to your roles as civil servants,” he said. He encouraged retirees to prioritize their health and take advantage of welfare packages designed to improve their post-retirement lives.
In an interview, Hon. Olowa expressed the significance of retirees in society, stating, “Our retirees are a reservoir of knowledge and experience. Their continued support and involvement in developmental strides are crucial for societal transformation. We must harness their wisdom to guide and mentor the next generation.”
Council Manager Mr. Oladipupo Otinwa also praised the retirees, noting, “You have devoted thirty-five good years of your lives to government service. Your memories will continue to be relished and celebrated as we have shared both good and bad times together.”
Representing the Head of Service, Mr. Ogunsakin extolled the virtues of the retired workers. “You have left a long-lasting legacy, and your names have been etched in gold,” he said. He also commended Hon. Olowa for the exceptional quality of gifts given to the retirees, describing it as “the first of its kind.”
The celebration included the presentation of certificates and gifts such as grinding machines and dry cleaning machines, courtesy of the Hon. Olowa-led administration. The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) also contributed cash gifts to honour the retirees’ dedication.
As the event concluded, the retirees were left with not only tangible gifts but also a renewed sense of purpose and acknowledgement of their lasting contributions to Ibeju-Lekki and beyond.
