Youth Association, NDLEA, Human Rights Officials Unite Against Immorality, Drug Abuse, GBV in a Bold Campaign for a Brighter Future.

In a bid to combat rising immorality and anti-social behaviours among the youth, kakalistiq.com reports that the leadership of Bado-Oba youths in Epe, Lagos State, has launched a powerful sensitization and enlightenment campaign. Partnering with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Human Rights Official, the initiative which was held in Epe on Saturday, August 31st, 2024, seeks to steer young people away from negative influences and towards a more positive, community-driven future.

Speaking on the motivations behind the campaign, the President of the Bado-Oba Youth Association, Mr. Abolaji Onabanjo, expressed deep concern over the pervasive cycle of cultism, drug abuse, disregard for education, prostitution, lack of moral values, and growing disrespect for religious principles among the youth.

“This initiative was born from a genuine desire to see our young people thrive. We believe that every child has a potential and a dream that, if nurtured in the right environment, can transform their lives and contribute significantly to society,” Mr. Onabanjo stated.

Officers from the NDLEA highlighted the crucial role of young people in combating drug abuse, emphasizing that the fight against narcotics begins at the community level. Additionally, human rights officers delivered an eye-opening discussion on gender-based violence, urging youth to stand against all forms of abuse.

Mr. Obedat Lateef, who also spoke at the event, voiced his disappointment with the current attitudes of some youth in the community but expressed hope for change through such initiatives. “I believe this campaign will have a lasting impact. The commitment shown by the association is commendable, and I hope the government at the grassroots level will join in and expand this effort to involve more stakeholders. Together, we can build a better community, state, and nation,” he said.

Youth participants at the event expressed their appreciation to law enforcement agents for their support. They pledged to work closely with the authorities to tackle the menace of anti-social behaviours. Many shared personal stories of how the campaign had impacted their lives and called for continued efforts to promote positive change.

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Chief Quadri Seriki, Mr. Osikaokale, Miss Herbert, Mr. Otun, Prince Dapo Abidakun, and Mrs. Obedat.

The Bado-Oba Youth Association’s bold stand against immorality and drug abuse signals a renewed commitment to fostering a safer, more hopeful future for the young people of Epe.
