kakalistiq.com reports that Rep. Wale Raji, Member representing Epe Federal Constituency, led an inspection tour of several ongoing projects at Epe Grammar School on Sunday, October 6th, 2024.
Accompanied by Hon. Shakiru Adebanjo (John Bull), a former Lagos State House of Assembly member for Epe Constituency II, and other stakeholders including the two school principals, Mr. Jimoh Muhammed and Mrs. Ayodele, as well as EGOSA President Alhaja Olushola Alade-Raji, Rep. Raji assessed the progress of key infrastructural projects.
The lawmaker, alongside his Senior Legislative Aide on Works, Otunba Olusesi and some members of the Wale Raji Think-Tank Committee, was guided through the construction sites by the project engineer. Key facilities under development include a boys’ hostel, a block of classrooms, a principal’s lodge, a corpers’ lodge, a dining hall, a modern kitchen, and a network of roads. The engineer assured that all projects would be completed within three months.
In an interview with Pressmen, Rep. Wale Raji emphasized the historical significance of Epe Grammar School. “Epe Grammar School is the first secondary school in Epe Division. It has played a critical role in the educational development of this area and the state as a whole,” he said. “The school has produced notable figures like Professor Femi Agbalajobi, retired Controller of Customs Soliu Olumu, and former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, among others.”
Reflecting on his motivation for the interventions, the lawmaker noted, “When we were here, the facilities were adequate, but they could be better. As a product of the school, I felt it was necessary to address the infrastructural gaps, giving back to the institution and community that shaped us. We’ve tarred all the roads within the compound, built a mini stadium for sports, and are renovating the original block of classrooms.”
He also highlighted the construction of a new boys’ hostel. “Two years ago, we built a 100-bed hostel meant for the boys, but it was allocated to the girls. Now, we are constructing a new boys’ hostel to address that need,” Raji added.
One of the students, Adeniran Michael, an SS3c student, expressed appreciation for the ongoing projects, particularly the mini stadium. “The upgrades will definitely make learning more conducive for us. The mini stadium will enhance sporting activities, but I also believe the school needs a proper library and additional infrastructure to further improve teaching and learning,” he said.
Both the Junior and Senior school principals praised the lawmaker’s efforts, underscoring the importance of electing capable leaders who deliver tangible results. “This is the kind of leadership that ensures the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots,” one principal noted.
Alhaja Olushola Alade-Raji, President of the Epe Grammar School Old Students Association, also commended Rep. Raji’s contributions. “The interventions have been monumental, and we are truly grateful,” she said. “However, as an Oliver Twist, we appeal to the Lagos State government to further improve the school’s facilities and consider increasing the student admissions quota, particularly for the children of Old Students Association members.”
The projects are expected to transform Epe Grammar School into a modern educational hub within the coming months.
