“We signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the internationally acclaimed construction company, Summa Group, to develop and construct the much-awaited Lekki-Epe International Airport,” Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed. “This groundbreaking initiative is an essential part of our vision to improve connectivity in Lagos, stimulate economic growth, and draw in global investments.”
The Lagos State Government had acquired land for the airport project several years ago, but the new agreement with Summa Group marks a critical step towards its realization. Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of the project in positioning the Epe corridor as a hub for hospitality, industry, and commerce.
“The Lekki-Epe International Airport will facilitate travel and create new opportunities for businesses and residents throughout the state. Lagos leads, always,” he added.
The Lekki-Epe International Airport is set to revolutionize transportation and economic activities in Lagos State, particularly in Epe and its neighbouring communities. As a crucial infrastructure project, it is expected to:
Enhance Global Connectivity – The airport will serve as a gateway for international and domestic travellers, easing pressure on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and boosting tourism.
Attract Foreign Investments – With improved air travel, global businesses, investors, and multinational corporations will be more inclined to establish operations in the area, fostering economic growth.
Boost Local Economy and Job Creation – The airport will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, benefitting industries such as transportation, hospitality, trade, and logistics.
Support Industrial Expansion – The Ibeju-Lekki industrial corridor, which houses major projects like the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Seaport, and the Lekki Free Trade Zone, will benefit immensely from the airport, ensuring seamless movement of goods and personnel.
Beyond the airport project, Governor Sanwo-Olu has initiated several key infrastructural developments in Epe and its environs aimed at positioning the area as a leading commercial and industrial hub. These include:
The Lagos Food Hub and Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu – A state-of-the-art food logistics and processing hub aimed at ensuring food security, increasing local agricultural production, and boosting agribusiness.
The Film City in Ejinrin – Designed to transform Lagos into the cinematic capital of Africa, this project will attract major film productions, create employment, and stimulate creative industry growth.
Ongoing Road Expansions and Infrastructure Upgrades – The government has embarked on massive road construction and rehabilitation to enhance connectivity within Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, and other parts of the state.
With the Lekki-Epe International Airport, Lagos is on the brink of a new era of development. The project aligns perfectly with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to making Lagos a world-class megacity, ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with economic expansion.
As Lagos continues to lead in urban innovation and economic transformation, the Epe region is poised to become one of the most sought-after investment destinations in Nigeria and beyond.
