“LASG Committed to Retirees’ Welfare,” Says Hakeem Shittu at Pension Desk Officers Training

In a move to strengthen pension administration and ensure smoother retirement transitions within Lagos State’s basic education sector, kakalistiq.com reports that the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) concluded a three-day intensive retreat for Pension Desk Officers across the 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs). The retreat, held in Badagry from Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 11, 2025, brought together key personnel tasked with managing the retirement process for teachers and education staff.

Speaking at the opening of the retreat, LASUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, reaffirmed the State Government’s priority on the welfare of retirees. “The Lagos State Government remains unwavering in its commitment to the welfare of retired personnel in the basic education sector,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of accurate, timely, and compassionate pension administration.

The LASUBEB Chairman, represented at the event by Board Member Mr. Owolabi Jamiu Falana, noted that the retreat was not just a routine training but part of a broader strategy to modernize pension processes across the state. “LASUBEB will continue to lead initiatives aimed at improving operational standards and promoting a seamless transition for retirees, reinforcing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to a responsive and people-centered governance,” he assured.

Mrs. Bisi Ojora delivered an in-depth training on documentation procedures, pension calculations, and gratuity processing. Mr. Olufemi Damilola guided attendees through the financial side of pension administration, offering practical insights on the computation of funds and aligning practices with statutory guidelines. His session focused on ensuring that every retiree receives their entitlements accurately and without delay.
