In a heartfelt show of compassion and community spirit, the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, alongside the LCDA’s Chairperson, Dr. Olajumoke Ajoke Anomo, led a significant outreach aimed at bringing relief, dignity, and encouragement to widows within the local government area.
The event, held on Monday, September 8th, marked a high point of the Ikosi-Ejinrin Widows’ Enhancement Programme, a social intervention scheme dedicated to uplifting one of society’s most often overlooked groups (widows). From across the six wards of the LCDA, they gathered in hopeful anticipation, and they were not disappointed.
Under the warm canopy of empathy and community service, 100 widows were each handed ₦10,000 in cash, alongside essential food items such as rice, beans, and garri. Clothing items were also distributed, bringing not just material assistance, but a message of care and solidarity.
Dr. Olajumoke Anomo, the Chairperson and the driving force behind the initiative, assured attendees that the effort was just the beginning. “We are committed to reaching even more widows as opportunities allow. This administration will continue to prioritize women’s empowerment and social welfare,” she said.
She extended deep appreciation to her husband, the Executive Chairman, for his full support. “His unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of the vulnerable is truly commendable. He is a compassionate leader, and this programme is a testament to his dedication to grassroots development,” she said, urging those present to keep him in their prayers. “Pray for his success, strength, and good health as he leads the Council on its path of development.”
The event was graced by a number of dignitaries and key stakeholders in the LCDA, reflecting the wide-reaching support for the cause. Among the guests were Mrs. Aishat Dehinsilu, wife of the Vice Chairman; Hon. Shakirat Adesanya, Councillor of Ward G1; Mrs. Hassan, wife of the Leader of the House; Hon. Jimoh Odumeru, former Vice Chairman; Hon. Anthony Ajewole, APC Secretary; Chief Mrs. Modinat Yusuf, APC Vice Chairman, Ikosi-Ejinrin; Mrs. Somoye, Head of WAPA Department; and several members of the management staff and other community leaders.
The Chairman, Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, in his address, reaffirmed his administration’s firm commitment to inclusive governance and social support systems. “The widows in our communities deserve care, dignity, and support. Today’s initiative is part of our broader vision to ensure that no one is left behind in Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA,” he stated, drawing applause from the crowd.
That vision was not lost on the beneficiaries. With emotion in her voice and gratitude in her heart, Mrs. Tijani Modinat spoke on behalf of the widows, many of whom had been battling hardship in silence. “We are truly grateful to the Council for remembering us. Life has not been easy, but today’s support gives us hope and reminds us that we are not forgotten. May Allah bless our leaders for this kindness,” she said, as others around her nodded and murmured in agreement.
The programme was more than an outreach, it was a declaration. A declaration that no matter the circumstances, the widows of Ikosi-Ejinrin are seen, they are heard, and they are valued. As they carried home their gifts, they also carried something deeper: a renewed sense of hope and the reminder that, even in loss, they are not alone.
Indeed, as the gathering dispersed with smiles, handshakes, and blessings, one message lingered: “The widows in our communities deserve care, dignity, and support.” And in Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, that message is not just spoken, it is lived.
