Sheikh Abduls-Sobur Balogun Urges Ramadan-Driven Accountability for Better Governance in Epe.

In a thought-provoking Annual Ramadan lecture at the 1st Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun, Sheikh Abdus-Sobur Balogun (ACCrFA) called on political leaders and public office holders to embrace the sacred month as a time for reflection, self-assessment, and renewed commitment to service.

During his lecture tagged “Ramadan and Self Importance,” he urged them to embrace the transformative power of self-reflection and accountability, saying Ramadan is more than fasting from food and drink. “It is an opportunity to purify the heart, examine our actions, and ensure that every decision we make serves the people with integrity and humility,” he said.

The esteemed cleric highlighted the unique benefits of Ramadan beyond spiritual renewal. “Ramadan purifies the heart and soul. It reminds us to distance ourselves from the fleeting pleasures of this world and to cultivate discipline, patience, and humility,” he explained. Drawing from both faith and science, Sheikh Balogun noted, “Fasting moderates sexual desires, strengthens the body, and even reduces ailments linked to modern lifestyles, such as insulin resistance and related health issues.”

He emphasized that morality and character-building are central to the sacred month. “Ramadan teaches caution in speech and conduct,” he said. “It encourages humility and carefulness in all our actions which are qualities essential for leadership.”

The lecture drew the attention of respected religious clerics and local government leaders, including Epe Local Government Vice Chairman Hon. Sikiru Owolomoshe. Reflecting on governance in Epe, Sheikh Balogun, a forensic accounting and financial advisory specialist, urged leaders to assess their progress in infrastructure, electricity, water supply, and community welfare. “Every effort to uplift the community increases your reward in the sight of Almighty Allah,” he told the officials. “Do not stop at half measures. Commit fully to turning around the town for the benefit of its people.”

Taking his message further, the cleric proposed a bold idea: conducting elections and swearing-in ceremonies during Ramadan. “The sacredness of this month, coupled with the heightened consciousness of Allah, would naturally inspire leaders to honor their promises and govern with integrity,” he suggested.

Sheikh Balogun also reminded the faithful that the benefits of fasting extend beyond the personal. “Fasting opens the doors of paradise, forgives sins, and blesses the believer with abundant mercy. But these blessings are sustained only if we continue in righteousness and do not return to bad ways once Ramadan ends,” he cautioned.

With Ramadan coming to an end, it is clear that the holy month offers more than spiritual nourishment, it is a blueprint for ethical governance, personal accountability, and service-driven leadership that could transform local communities across Nigeria.
