The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, under the dynamic leadership of Executive Chairman Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, witnessed a flurry of significant developments this week, highlighting the administration’s commitment to improving power supply, healthcare, and education within the community.Hon. In a crucial meeting held earlier this week, officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources—including Surveyor Mrs. Agunbiade and Deputy Directors Engr. Ambali and Engr. Osoba—convened with Hon. Olowa to inspect prospective sites for the proposed Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Substation. This 66MVA project, featuring two 132/33KVA transformers, is set to revolutionize power distribution in the area.
Speaking on the significance of the project, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Akadiri Ayorinde, conveyed Olowa’s optimism: “This project marks the dawn of uninterrupted power supply for Ibeju-Lekki. Soon, power outages will be a thing of the past.”
The local government also received royal acknowledgment when the wives of traditional rulers in Ibeju-Lekki, collectively known as The Oloris, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Olowa. The visit served as a token of appreciation for their inclusion in the recent Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) conference, which was sponsored by the council.
The Oloris, represented by the wives of prominent rulers including the Gbadewolu of Araromi Land and the Ojomu of Lakowe, expressed deep gratitude to the Chairman for fostering unity among traditional rulers. “Hon. Olowa’s efforts have brought peace and harmony to our communities,” they noted, as they presented him with an award of recognition.
In response, Hon. Olowa reaffirmed his commitment to the traditional institutions in the area, stating, “Our administration is firmly aligned with the custodians of our traditions, and we pledge continued support to uphold the cultural heritage of Ibeju-Lekki.”
In another major stride, Hon. Olowa, in the company of Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, inspected the site for a proposed world-class medical facility. This ambitious project, a collaboration between the Lagos State Government and the African Development Bank (AfDB), aims to establish a leading healthcare center at the former council secretariat near MOPOL 49 Base Akodo.
“This facility is designed to provide comprehensive medical services and is poised to be one of the best in Nigeria,” remarked Ayorinde on behalf of the Chairman.
Lastly, education was also a focal point of the week as Hon. Olowa, accompanied by Supervisor for Education Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan, visited Magbon Alade Community Primary School to assess its infrastructural needs. The visit was part of the administration’s broader mission to enhance educational standards across the council area.
Interacting with the pupils, Hon. Olowa encouraged them to be “good ambassadors of the school,” while also praising the teachers for their dedication to the noble profession. “Our goal is to elevate education to its highest pinnacle,” Olowa stated, highlighting similar infrastructural improvements in other schools within the local government.
As the week drew to a close, it was clear that Hon. Olowa’s administration remains steadfast in its resolve to deliver tangible benefits to the people of Ibeju-Lekki, earning recognition from both local and royal quarters.
