In a significant move to prioritize the health and well-being of his constituents, kakalistiq.com reports that Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, Executive Chairman of the Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA), launched the JIGI ANOMO ALAFIA TAYO Initiative on June 5, 2024. Held at the LCDA Secretariat, this two-day medical mission marked the sixth edition of the initiative under Anomo’s administration.
Since its inception, the initiative has benefited over 9,000 residents, with this edition alone aiding approximately 1,600 people. The program underscores Anomo’s dedication to the health and general well-being of Ikosi-Ejinrin residents.
During the flag-off ceremony, Anomo emphasized the importance of regular health examinations. “Early detection of ailments significantly simplifies their management,” he remarked, explaining his administration’s focus on organizing consistent medical missions to address even severe health conditions.
In introducing the Jigi Anomo initiative, Anomo highlighted the critical value of good eyesight. Quoting the Yoruba saying, “Ojuloba ara” (the eyes are the king of the body), he stressed, “Our vision is priceless, and maintaining eye health is essential.” Partnering with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, the council provided comprehensive eye care to the residents.
Anomo passionately explained the need for health outreach, saying, “Ensuring the health of our people is our foremost duty. Seeing the relief and gratitude in their eyes is the greatest reward.”
Residents benefited from various health examinations during the program, including eye screenings, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, body mass index assessments, diet and nutrition counselling, and tuberculosis screenings. Those diagnosed with eye conditions received medicated eyeglasses and medications, while severe cases were referred for surgery, with costs covered by the council.
By the program’s conclusion, over 1,600 individuals had received medical assistance. More than 600 residents obtained free eyeglasses and eye medications, and around 50 individuals with severe eye conditions were scheduled for surgery, fully funded by the council.
The gratitude from residents was palpable, with many expressing deep appreciation for Anomo’s dedication to their health. Mr. Lawrence, a beneficiary from Ketu, praised Anomo as a blessing to Ikosi-Ejinrin, noting that his people-centred initiatives are unprecedented in the LCDA.
Alh. Taibat Omolade Kareem, a 73-year-old beneficiary battling cataracts, shared her heartfelt thanks. “I had lost hope and accepted impending blindness, but now I am scheduled for surgery. May Almighty Allah continue to bless Anomo and shield him from darkness,” she prayed.
The Jigi Anomo Alafia Tayo Initiative stands as a testament to the power of community-focused leadership, providing essential healthcare and restoring hope to thousands in Ikosi-Ejinrin.
