In a major push to strengthen sports development in public primary schools, kakalistiq.com reports that the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has joined forces with the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) to foster talent discovery, promote sportsmanship, and provide equal opportunities for young pupils.
The collaboration was announced during a courtesy visit by the LSSC delegation to LASUBEB’s headquarters on Thursday, where both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing future athletes.
Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, praised the Sports Commission for its dedication to unearthing and grooming young talents. He stressed that the partnership aligns with the state’s vision of inclusive education, ensuring every child, regardless of background, has access to quality sports training.
“Every child deserves equal opportunities, and sports education is a crucial part of holistic development,” Dr. Shittu said. “We are calling on the Commission to support the training of our school coaches and teachers in modern techniques to meet global standards. Investing in our educators means unlocking the full potential of our children.”
He revealed that LASUBEB has already introduced various sporting activities in schools but seeks deeper involvement from the Sports Commission to refine and professionalize grassroots talent development.
Echoing this commitment, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, emphasized the importance of building a strong foundation for future athletes.
“This partnership goes beyond symbolism, it’s a strategic move to incubate talent, provide exposure, and create pathways for young stars to thrive,” Fatodu stated. “We are determined to ensure that no potential is wasted, and every child with a passion for sports gets the right support.”
Mr. Hakeem Lamidi, Board Secretary of LASUBEB, also expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that it would boost pupils’ confidence, visibility, and overall development.
With this alliance, Lagos State takes another bold step toward raising the next generation of champions, proving that the future of sports begins in the classroom.
