The ‘Right for Bright Kids’ Initiative (RBK) marked a pivotal chapter in the educational landscape of Lekki LCDA with a landmark seminar held on September 23rd and 26th, 2024. This forward-thinking initiative, spearheaded by the visionary Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), through the department of education and library services, was meticulously crafted to bridge the critical gaps among key educational stakeholders—government, parents, teachers, and students. The goal: to forge a united front aimed at elevating the academic performance of students in public schools across Lekki LCDA.

The seminar unfolded as a multi-dimensional event, tackling some of the most pressing issues in the local education system. It featured a series of capacity-building workshops for teachers, an awareness and re-orientation program for parents, and a motivational seminar for students—each segment carefully tailored to address specific needs and challenges.

The program kicked off with a dedicated seminar for public school teachers, focusing on enhancing their professional capabilities. This capacity-building workshop zeroed in on the critical aspects of teaching that directly influence student outcomes. Facilitators led discussions on effective teaching strategies, classroom management, and the importance of understanding students’ individual learning needs. The seminar provided a valuable platform for teachers to voice their challenges and explore innovative solutions to implement in their classrooms.

The response from the teachers was overwhelmingly positive. They lauded the insights gained, noting that the seminar came at a crucial time. Many expressed that the workshop reinforced the importance of continuous professional development and underscored how their actions—or inaction—significantly impact student success.

Following the teachers’ seminar, the spotlight shifted to parents in a session designed to reorient their perspectives on their role in their children’s education. During this session, parents were made aware of how certain actions, often unintended, can undermine the efforts of both the government and teachers in nurturing their children’s academic growth.

Facilitators brought to light issues such as parental negligence, lack of involvement in school activities, and poor communication with teachers. Parents were urged to take a more active role in their children’s education, fostering a supportive environment both at home and in school.

The session culminated in an interactive panel discussion where government representatives, parents, and teachers engaged in a meaningful dialogue. This exchange was aimed at ensuring all parties are working in harmony towards the common goal of improving student outcomes. The discussion underscored the necessity of a unified approach, with the government committed to providing essential resources, teachers dedicated to delivering quality education, and parents offering unwavering support.

The final segment of the program was a motivational seminar for students, where they were encouraged to seize the opportunities that lie ahead. Speakers inspired the students to take ownership of their education, stay committed to their studies, and actively engage in programs that promote skills acquisition and STEM education. The students were also reminded that their mental and emotional well-being is crucial for academic success, with the RBK Initiative poised to support them holistically.

Hon. (Engr.) Rasaki Bamidele Kasali graced the event, accompanied by other prominent executive members, including Hon. Oluremi Alogba (Vice-Chairman of Lekki LCDA) and Hon. Taiwo Fatai (Chief-of-Staff of Lekki LCDA). The presence of these officials underscored the administration’s unwavering commitment to educational advancement in the area.

The seminar also saw the attendance of the management team of Lekki LCDA, led by Mr. Giwa Olayiwola (Council Manager), and other key figures such as Princess Bolajoko Atiku (H.O.D. Education) and Dr. Shoye Damilare (H.O.U. Tourism). Together, they emphasized the critical role of collaboration in raising the quality of education within the LCDA.

The ‘Right for Bright Kids’ Initiative has set the stage for a transformative impact on education in Lekki LCDA. By bringing together teachers, parents, and students under one banner, the initiative is fostering a culture of collective responsibility and shared purpose.

As the program continues to unfold, there is a shared optimism among all stakeholders that their combined efforts will lead to significant improvements in both the academic performance and overall development of students in Lekki LCDA.
