Speaking at the First Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun, during the Kayokayo Quranic Recitation and Quiz Competition, Oba Adewale expressed his gratitude for the scholars’ impactful lecture and their dedication to uplifting Islam in Yoruba Land. “The lecture delivered by our esteemed scholars has left an indelible mark on our hearts,” said Oba Adewale. “We will take their words into serious consideration as we move forward.”
The Olu-Epe thanked God for the protection and prosperity of the kingdom and its people over the years. Reflecting on the previous day’s Tahjud prayers, he commended the Grand Chief Imam’s steadfast commitment to the community’s spiritual well-being. “The Tahjud prayers are a testament to Sheikh Sadala’s dedication to our spiritual growth,” he remarked.
Oba Adewale also highlighted Epe’s long-standing reputation as the “home of the Quran,” sharing a personal anecdote from his youth. “Epe’s respect for Islamic tradition is known worldwide,” he said. “I remember a time when merely mentioning I was from Epe protected me from deceit.”
He offered prayers for the guest lecturer and the Grand Chief Imam, acknowledging their tireless efforts in making the celebration a success. “Epe, the town named after the Quran, is unique in its heritage, and the Kayokayo Festival showcases this to the world,” Oba Adewale added.
The Oloja-Elect of Lagos, Olojo Abiola Kosoko, also addressed the gathering, expressing his gratitude for another festive year and appreciating the leadership of the Olu-Epe. “We are committed to elevating the festival each year,” Kosoko stated. “The King Kosoko Royal Institute for Islamic Studies and Quranic Matters is now registered, and we seek the support of the Grand Chief Imam and other stakeholders to uphold its initiatives.”
The Grand Chief Imam of Epe Division, Sheikh Abdulrahman Abiola Sadala, applauded the guest lecturer, Sheikh Taofeek Akewugbagold, for his dedication to promoting Islam through the Kayokayo celebration. “Sheikh Akewugbagold’s efforts have been instrumental in uplifting our faith,” he noted.
Mrs. Jolaosho, Director of Quality Assurance in the Lagos State Ministry of Education, expressed her joy at witnessing the year’s festival, commemorating the establishment of Epe by King Kosoko of Lagos. “The Quranic recitation and Quiz competition are the heart of the Kayokayo celebration, reflecting Epe’s name, ‘Epe OniKurani,'” she said. “Participating in these activities is of great significance for our youth.”
She called on all community stakeholders to support teachers in shaping the lives of young people and combating social vices. “Division along ethnic lines by unscrupulous persons is the only undoing of our town,” Mrs. Jolaosho emphasized. “We have always lived together harmoniously, and we must continue to do so.”
The Kayokayo Festival stands as a testament to Epe’s rich Islamic heritage, promoting unity, faith, and community spirit. The accolades from the Olu-Epe and other leaders highlight the importance of preserving these traditions and fostering peace and prosperity in Epe.
