During his address, Mr Thani highlighted the continuous support the centre has received, noting that the annual distribution of food packs has become a lifeline for the elderly residents. “Our facility caters to over 2000 older people who travel from Epe, Lagos, and even beyond to receive care. This partnership has provided immense relief and joy to our elderly community,” he added.
Mr. Tunde Thani, the visionary convener of the first old people care centre in Epe Division, expressed profound gratitude for the club’s generous contributions. “Today’s event is a testament to the power of partnership in achieving our goal of caring for the elderly. The support from Eko Club International is both heartwarming and instrumental in helping us realize our vision,” said Mr. Thani.
Detailing the impact of the centre, Mr. Thani briefed guests and donors from Eko Club International on the wide range of services offered. “Diagnostics, consultation, medication, physiotherapy, eye care, and surgeries are all free of charge. Our elders, who often suffer from solitude, find a place to interact, have fun, and even go on excursions. The support from friends, NGOs, and our dedicated 14-member Elders Council has been crucial in managing and expanding our services,” he shared.
Mrs. Bukola Adebiyi, representing the London Chapter of Eko Club International, spoke on behalf of the club’s president, Saheed Olusi. She emphasized the club’s commitment to charitable causes and the significance of their donation amidst Nigeria’s economic hardships. “The essence of our palliative distribution aligns with our initiative to give back to the community. Despite economic challenges, we believe in providing succour to the less privileged,” she said.
Stressing the passion of Emeritus President Otunba TJ Abass for the aged, Mrs. Adebiyi encouraged well-to-do individuals to donate items in good condition to the elderly. “I’ve been to Epe before, but this is my first time seeing the Thani Oladunjoye Old People Care Center. The activities here, and the independence they give our elders, are remarkable. It allows them to relax, get lively, and mingle with their peers,” she remarked.
The atmosphere was filled with gratitude as Alhaji Agara, a.k.a Government, praised Eko Club International for their generosity. “The Eko Club International has done a commendable job by providing food palliatives to our older people.
