In a fascinating display of community spirit, kakalistiq.com reports that the Conference of Community Youth Leaders (CCYL) in Eredo LCDA, Epe Lagos State has earned widespread praise for their recent initiative, distributing school supplies such as exercise books and other gifts to students in public primary schools. The two-day event which touched a total of 17 schools, held from Monday, 23rd to Tuesday, 24th September 2024, aimed to reward punctual students and encourage timeliness among their peers.
Hon. Ismail Akinloye, Chairman of Eredo LCDA, hailed the initiative as a resounding success during a courtesy visit by CCYL members. “Seeing the smiles on those children’s faces was priceless,” Akinloye remarked. “It’s a brilliant step in the right direction, motivating our young ones to cultivate positive habits early on.”
Some head teachers across various schools shared their delight over the gesture in an interview. Mrs. Kolawole Omotayo, head teacher at Saint John, said, “This donation is not just about gifts; it’s about reinforcing the value of punctuality. By recognizing those who come to school on time, the CCYL is helping us shape a more disciplined student body.”
Mrs. Bisiriyu M.I, from Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School, added, “This is the first time our students have received such a gift from the youth leaders, and it’s a gesture we deeply appreciate. It’s a step toward building a more responsible and dedicated generation.”
Similarly, Miss Orimogunje Adebowale, head teacher of UPE Primary School in Iraye-Oke, praised the initiative for tackling the issue of ‘African Time.’ “By rewarding punctuality, the CCYL is addressing a broader cultural challenge. Instilling timeliness in children from an early age will have a ripple effect on their future lives and careers.”
In Imokun, UPE Primary School’s head teacher, Mrs. Adetoun Anifowose, expressed her gratitude as well. “This is the first time our students are receiving something like this from the community youth. It shows that the government isn’t working alone, and I hope other organizations can join hands to further support our schools.”
Speaking on behalf of CCYL, President Lamina Hammed explained the motivation behind the project. “We wanted to promote punctuality and foster a culture of timeliness, starting from the grassroots. When the Chairman heard of the positive feedback from the first day, he was thrilled. It’s proof that even small efforts can create lasting impacts.”
Hammed also called on others in the community to get involved. “We’re urging men and women of means to step up and support our children. By rewarding punctuality, we’re not just giving out supplies; we’re nurturing values of hard work, resilience, and academic excellence.”
