“She Was More Than a Mother”: Elder Margaret Amuni Laid to Rest as Children Pay Emotional Tribute, Thank Dignitaries for Support.

Kakalistiq.com reports that the children of Late Elder Margaret Amuni have extended their deepest appreciation to all who joined them to honor their mother, an extraordinary woman who passed away at the age of 77. The Amuni family, in a heartfelt statement, thanked friends, colleagues, associates, and dignitaries for their love, presence, and support during the funeral and reception ceremonies.

On Friday, May 9, 2025, the Epe community came to a standstill as family, friends, and well-wishers gathered to bid farewell to Elder Margaret Amuni at her Owolabi Giwa residence. Her interment was marked by prayers, reflections, and solemn gratitude. Later, the tribute turned celebratory at the Marina Waterfront venue, where guests shared stories and raised glasses, not in sorrow, but in celebration of a matriarch whose influence will never fade.

Barrister Olayinka Amuni, speaking on behalf of his siblings: Mrs. Yetunde H. Jinmi-Ahisu, Engr. Adebayo M. Amuni, Mrs. Adetutu S. Odusami, and their late sister, Mrs. Bukola R. Omole, offered words soaked in gratitude and remembrance.

“On behalf of my father and the entire Amuni family, we are deeply grateful to everyone who stood with us to honor our beloved mother. From the bottom of our hearts, we say thank you to Rep. Wale Raji, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Architect Abiola Anifowose, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, and all other dignitaries and friends who came from far and near. Your presence gave us strength, your words gave us peace,” he said.

Describing their mother as a rare bridge-builder, Barrister Amuni noted, “Our mother was a role model to women, regardless of faith or background. She loved without boundaries and gave without asking. Her absence leaves a deep, irreparable void: not just in the heart of our father and siblings, but across the entire family and the lives she touched. Yet, we find comfort in the legacies she left behind: unity, charity, philanthropy, deep faith, love, and compassion. We vow to uphold them.”

One of the most emotional moments came from Engr. Adebayo Amuni (Kofi), who, while struggling to hold back tears, painted a vivid picture of a mother whose presence was simply too great to reduce to a sentence.

“My mum cannot be described in any brief statement. My mum, literally, you’d call her a woman, but she’s a man because she started taking care of us from the age of 20. She died at 77. That means she took care of us, from first to last born, for 57 years. How can you describe that briefly?”

He continued, his voice cracking under the weight of memory, “She was more than a woman, more than a mother, she was everything you can ask for in this world. We didn’t lack anything because of her, not even our father. Sometimes I’d take my dad out to hang out because I’m the social one. My mum never came. She’d say, ‘Whatever you want out there, buy it for me.’ But my father would come along. And by 10 pm sharp, he’d insist on going home. I’d ask him why, and he’d say, ‘Olu won’t sleep if I don’t get home.’ And it was true. My mum would be sitting at the gate waiting for him, every time.”

Engr. Amuni also recalled her deep sense of inclusion and family: “This is the same woman who bridged the gap between the Adefuye and Amuni families. She didn’t discriminate. From my friends in secondary school to university and beyond, once you walked through our door, you became her child. So, how do you expect me or any of us to describe her briefly? We simply can’t.”

He then shared her final wish: “She told us, ‘honor me, do not cry. Love each other. Do not fight.’ And I know the only thing that will make her smile now is for us to carry on her legacy of faith, of service, of love and peace. If I talk for a whole month, I still won’t be able to fully describe who she was. But I’ll try by living the life she taught us to live.”

Elder Margaret Amuni was not just the heartbeat of her home. She was the pillar of her community, a matriarch with a spiritual compass and the rare gift of making everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. Her children, with steady hearts and teary eyes, now stand united, not in mourning alone, but in the resolve to keep her spirit alive through every act of kindness, every prayer, and every moment of compassion they extend to others.
