Dr. Olagunju’s death was confirmed in a statement issued by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) LASUED secretary, Comrade Jamal Apena, who described his passing as “a significant loss to the university community.” He noted that Dr. Olagunju’s contributions to the Union’s struggles, academic development, and his department’s growth were invaluable.
In line with Islamic customs, Dr. Olagunju was laid to rest the same day in his hometown of Iseyin, where he held the distinguished title of Jagun of Iseyin Kingdom. His passing is mourned not only by his colleagues and students at LASUED but also by the broader Iseyin community.

Dr. Muse reflected on the suddenness of the loss: “Somebody that I saw yesterday around 5 pm that we discussed together. It’s unbelievable. Ya Hakeem, ya Jabbar, all-wise, the irresistible. You know best. I pray Allah overlook his shortcomings and grant him Janat Firdaous.”
