kakalistiq.com reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has been thrown into turmoil following a controversial shadow primary election that has fractured the camp of political heavyweight and GAC member, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun.
Reports has it that the Justice Forum (JF), the dominant faction of the APC in the area, is at the center of a bitter power struggle, with members accusing leadership of employing undemocratic tactics to impose a preferred chairmanship aspirant. Critics have labeled the shadow primary as a “kangaroo process,” alleging it was designed to sideline qualified contenders.
Tensions flared during a Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting where Basorun announced the contentious shadow primary plan. JF stakeholders pushed back, demanding a return to the original selection procedure, which entailed a screening committee narrowing five aspirants to three through a transparent process. “This sudden shift is a calculated move to undermine fairness,” a party insider alleged.
The crisis escalated when Kunle Bakare, popularly known as Bakky, was excluded from the ballot. A loyal JF member and son of a respected elder in the group, Bakky’s disqualification sparked protests. Led by Comrade Sheu Bana, his supporters disrupted the election proceedings, insisting that no vote would take place unless Bakky’s name was reinstated.
“This process is an insult to our collective integrity,” said Bana. “Bakky has fulfilled all requirements and declared his intention in the presence of JF members. Excluding him is a blatant act of bias and a threat to our unity.”
With the Justice Forum’s internal rift deepening, political analysts warn that the crisis could weaken the faction’s dominance in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA if leaders fail to resolve the conflict. The fallout continues to cast a shadow over the APC’s local political future.
