Epe Division LASPPAN Urge Government and Private Sector Patronage Amid Celebrations

The Lagos State Professional Photographers Association of Nigeria (LASPPAN), Epe Division, has made a heartfelt appeal for more patronage from both the government and private sector to uplift their members’ livelihoods. This call was made at the 6th annual Photographer’s Day celebration, held on October 27, 2024, in the vibrant setting of Recreation Hall, Epe, Lagos. Members and esteemed guests gathered to celebrate the contributions of photographers in their communities, while simultaneously highlighting the profession’s ongoing challenges.

A lineup of distinguished dignitaries graced the occasion, signifying the event’s importance to the local community. Among those in attendance were Mrs. Stella Oladunjoye, representing Rep. Wale Raji, Member of the House of Representatives, Epe Federal Constituency; Alhaji Akin Bashiru, who represented Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and Hon. Wasiu Odeyemi, a prominent All Progressive Congress, APC, Chieftain. Epe Local Government Chairman Princess Surah Animashaun was also represented, alongside several Board of Trustees members, including Alhaja A. Mosun and Pa Olatunde.

In his opening address, LASPPAN Chairman Comrade AbdulAzeez Olanrewaju passionately urged guests and society at large to show support for photographers, highlighting how crucial patronage is for their socio-economic well-being. “I appeal to our guests and the broader society to please patronize our services. We also appeal to government parastatals to always patronize our members for various events,” he implored. Comrade Olanrewaju also acknowledged the efforts of honored guests who, despite busy schedules, found time to stand with the association.

Reflecting on the history of the association, Olanrewaju paid tribute to past industry icons, such as Pa Edu Photo, Baba and Mama West, Baba Folly, Pa Balogun, Alhaja Bola Super, Baba Oladele and Mama Peju. Others include Femson, Prince and Baba Young Ade Photo who paved the way for the younger generation. “These are our heroes and pathfinders,” he said solemnly, expressing prayers for their eternal rest. The tribute served as a reminder of the enduring legacy the association aims to uphold.

Speaking on behalf of Princess Orelope-Adefulire, Alhaji Akin Bashiru affirmed the government’s recognition of LASPPAN’s significance. “The Senior Special Assistant pledges her support for such a serious-minded association’s growth and development,” he announced. Other leaders present, including Hon. Wasiu Odeyemi, congratulated LASPPAN members for their dedication to communal service, acknowledging how their craft has fueled local progress.

Further encouraging unity within LASPPAN, Hon. Tunde Ogunkoya, representing Princess Surah Animashaun, emphasized the need for solidarity among all branches across Epe. “Unity among members is essential for the growth and resilience of the profession,” he stated, striking a chord with the audience.

The influence of technology was another key discussion, with Alhaji Olanrewaju Bello Smart urging photographers to embrace new technological advancements. Hon. Seriki Olabowale echoed this sentiment, calling on members to adapt while maintaining pride in their craft. “The world has changed, and we as photographers must not be left behind,” Bello Smart emphasized, advocating for adaptation without compromise to their professional integrity.

Life patron Asiwaju M. Agbomeji reinforced the need for unity and progress among members. Similarly, Rep. Wale Raji, represented by Eredo APC Stalwart, Chief Stella Oladunjoye, praised the association’s leadership for their commitment and encouraged prudent use of funds for development. “Spend the donated funds judiciously after the event; this isn’t the time for frivolities,” she cautioned while announcing a donation of 500,000 Naira from the Legislator to support LASPPAN’s initiatives.

The day’s celebration was filled with camaraderie, pride, and a strong sense of purpose, culminating in a series of chieftaincy title conferrals.

Honored titles went to community leaders and patrons, including Alhaji Asiwaju M. Agbomeji as Grand Patron, Mrs. Stella Oladunjoye as Matron, Hon. Seriki Olabowale as Patron and Mrs. Ekerin Muinat, affectionately named Amuludun of LASPPAN. The event also featured a fundraiser for LASPPAN’s Secretariat building project, solidifying a vision for a unified and flourishing future.
