kakalistiq.com reports that the Epe Ogunmodede Club has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Shefiu Adewale Bamgbopa, Eshilokun I, describing the late monarch as a symbol of unity, wisdom, and progressive leadership whose legacy will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
Oba Adewale, the Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, joined his ancestors on Saturday, May 31st, 2025.
In a press statement issued by the Executive Council of the club this morning, the monarch’s death was described as a monumental loss not only to the people of Epe but to the entire traditional institution of Lagos State.
“The transition of our revered royal father has created a deep void in our hearts,” the statement read. “He was more than a custodian of culture and tradition, he embodied the hopes, dignity, and aspirations of the Epe people.”

The club extended its heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the Epe traditional council, and all sons and daughters of Epe both at home and abroad, while calling for collective reflection during this period of mourning.
However, the club also used the occasion to address recent controversies surrounding the succession process. In a firm tone, the Epe Ogunmodede Club disassociated itself from the reported installation of an Olu-Epe-elect, which allegedly took place at the First Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun, on Monday, June 2nd, 2025. According to the statement, the event saw the emergence of High Chief Kadri Odedeogboro and Chief Jide Ikuforiji, a move the club described as “premature and potentially disruptive.”
“As an association rooted in Epe’s history and dedicated to peace and development, we believe strongly that any decision regarding the traditional leadership of our kingdom must be approached with caution, unity, and respect for due process,” the club emphasized. “We urge all parties involved to remain calm and allow the appropriate traditional and governmental institutions to handle this sensitive matter.”
The statement, released during the sacred period of Eid-il-Kabir, called for patience, unity, and communal harmony. The club urged indigenes of Epe to prioritize shared values over individual ambitions.
“This is a time for reflection, not division. The spirit of Eid calls for sacrifice and solidarity. Let us not allow tension to unravel the fabric of togetherness that binds Epe as one people,” the club appealed.
Looking ahead to the forthcoming Ileya Festival, the Epe Ogunmodede Club expressed hope that the celebrations would serve as a season of healing and renewed commitment to peace. It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Epe remains a model of unity and progress.
“We pray for a peaceful, joyful, and meaningful Eid celebration in every household across the length and breadth of the Epe Kingdom,” the statement concluded.
