Held at the serene Epe Hotel and Suites, Shagari Estate, the event was far more than a social gathering. It became a platform for empowerment, shared experiences, and a renewed call for improved welfare for the physically challenged in the community. Selected PLWDs across various wards in Epe were treated to a memorable morning filled with music, joy, knowledge-sharing, and the presentation of cash gifts and food items.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Kenny Kadri-Edu emphasized the deeper intent behind the gathering. “Instead of engaging in lavish celebrations, I chose to mark Mr. Governor’s milestone with a gesture that reflects his commitment to inclusive governance. This event not only honors Governor Sanwo-Olu’s developmental achievements but also reaffirms that PLWDs in Epe are not forgotten. They deserve a sense of belonging, and this breakfast symbolizes that they remain a vital part of our society,” he said.

The gathering featured thought-provoking contributions from notable guests who brought messages of hope and resilience.

Dr. Popoola Oluwaseun delivered a powerful keynote, urging PLWDs to believe in their potential despite physical limitations.

“Disability does not mean inability,” he noted. “Each of you has a unique talent that can add value to your family and society. Don’t shy away, engage with your community, stay informed, and never stop chasing your dreams. My own educational journey proves that determination beats limitation.”

Dr. Fowowe S.S, visibly moved, commended the relentless effort of Mr. Segun Williams, President of the PLWDs association, who personally drove back and forth five times to ensure that many members could attend.

“That act alone teaches us something powerful,” Dr. Fowowe said. “He didn’t wait for help, he became the help. That’s the spirit we must all embrace.”

Mr. Williams also shared his personal story, recalling how his parents refused to let him isolate himself due to his condition.

“My dad pushed me to play football with other children. I couldn’t even walk properly, but I bought a ball so we could all play. If I didn’t take that step, I might not be who I am today,” he said, encouraging others to see PLWDs not as beggars but as full participants in society.

Vice President Mr. Iyanda Azeez and Mrs. Agbadanla, the association’s Secretary, also lent their voices. Mrs. Agbadanla expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Kadri-Edu and Governor Sanwo-Olu for consistently championing the cause of PLWDs in Lagos State.

“We’re grateful for the governor’s efforts in other parts of the state,” she said. “But we hope Epe won’t be left behind. This event gives us hope.”

The breakfast ended on a high note, not just with gifts and food, but with a renewed sense of purpose and community. The BOS2023 Project once again proved that leadership rooted in empathy and inclusion can drive meaningful change, one heartfelt gesture at a time.
