Following discussions with Eko Electricity Distribution (EKEDC) management, Chairman Olowa disclosed that officials visited the local government to reaffirm commitments, resulting in improved electricity supply through electric feeders to communities. Residents and members of End Darkness in Ibeju Lekki have already confirmed this positive change, he added.

On the debt resolution initiative, he revealed that the EKEDC has forwarded a comprehensive list of transformers, associated account numbers, and current debts owed by account holders. This data, shared with CDC executives, aims to clarify obligations and identify overloaded transformers as part of a strategic debt resolution plan.

As regards the technical audit commencement, Olowa emphasized that the technical team from EKEDC is set to conduct a comprehensive audit of electricity networks and assets in Ibeju Lekki and has initiated work after a meeting at the Secretariat. Today, they will be joined by representatives of CDAs on the field.

Outstanding issues concerning prepaid meters and donations of land were also highlighted in the update. As for pre-paid meters, he stressed that collaborative efforts with EKEDC to facilitate residents’ application and purchase of pre-paid meters are in progress. A framework for this initiative will be unveiled shortly.

The local government, according to him, has embarked on an assertive campaign to secure suitable land for the proposed substation. Updates on the project’s progress will be provided as developments unfold, he added.

As the community eagerly anticipates the positive changes in the LG, Chairman Olowa concludes with a note of gratitude for the ongoing support and understanding of the residents.

He reassures the community of the local government’s unwavering commitment to the continuous improvement of electricity services in Ibeju Lekki.
