In a solemn fidau prayer held in his hometown, the Muslim community celebrated Dr. Olagunju’s devout Islamic faith, academic strides and the impactful life he led. The event drew family members, the Koso community, and representatives of LASUED, who expressed their profound loss and gratitude for his enduring contributions to education and society.
Dr. Olumuyiwa Viatonu, representing LASUED management at the prayer, described the late academic as “a counselor and adviser of repute” and “a unique comrade who was both amiable and committed.” Reflecting on their final moments together, he said, “I was with him just 24 hours before his untimely death. His passing remains deeply shocking.”
In a condolence letter signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa and delivered by the Head of Campus in Epe, Dr. Olumuyiwa Viatonu, LASUED described Dr. Olagunju’s demise as a devastating blow. “The news of his passing jolted the campus to its marrow, especially as he was hale and hearty at his desk just a day before,” the statement read. The university management expressed heartfelt sympathies to the Olagunju family, urging them to find solace in their shared faith.
Dr. Olagunju was remembered not only as a scholar but also as a mentor and leader whose influence extended beyond LASUED. “He was always there for members, even during difficult union issues,” said Jamal Apena, Secretary of ASUU-LASUED. “His selflessness and gallantry will never be forgotten.”
Vice Chairman of ASUU-LASUED, Comrade Ige Ajayi, praised the late academic’s unwavering loyalty to the union. “He believed in our cause and stood with us at all times. We will forever remember him for his good deeds,” Ajayi remarked.
Comrade Ezekiel Abraham from the Department of Guidance and Counseling described Dr. Olagunju as “a man of many faces, humorous, and wonderful with countless amiable characteristics.”
