kakalistiq.com reports that in a bid to reassure constituents of brighter days ahead, Rep. Wale Raji, representing Epe Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, displayed uncommon legislative collaboration with his State counterparts, Hon. Abiodun Tobun (Epe 1) and Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu (Epe 2).
He addressed concerns about persistent power supply issues and clarified misconceptions surrounding the establishment of a Federal Medical Center (FMC) in the constituency. This came as he announced his new role as Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture (Livestock Development), emphasizing his continued commitment to food security.
During a stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday, October 11, 2024, as organized by Hon. Abiodun Tobun, who represents Epe Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rep. Raji urged residents to remain patient as efforts to resolve power challenges are underway.
“We’ve been addressing the electricity issue for quite some time. I have engaged extensively with the youth council, and we’ve held various discussions. Just recently, I did a follow up on the crucial meeting which had the presence of Princess Surah and Hon. Tobun at the Ministry of Energy, where they assured us that power would be restored within two weeks but that has not been realized,” Rep. Raji stated. “I believe in providing solutions, not just promises. If I tell you something is possible, rest assured that we’re already working on it,” he added confidently.
Rep. Raji highlighted that while temporary fixes are being considered, his focus is on finding a permanent solution to the electricity problems plaguing Epe. He pointed out the need for intervention from the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), stressing that the commission must enforce regulations on power distribution companies (discos) to ensure compliance.
“The injection station in Epe needs replacement, and that is part of the long-term plan,” he explained. “We are also exploring options like the Omotosho power station to ensure steady electricity supply.”
On the issue of the Federal Medical Center, Rep. Raji sought to dispel misconceptions, affirming that the facility would greatly complement the existing healthcare services.
“There has been some misinformation about the FMC. We already have a general hospital, and the FMC will only enhance healthcare in Epe,” he remarked. “Serious medical cases that usually require referrals to advanced facilities in Lagos can now be treated locally, reducing the strain on patients and their families.”
Rep. Raji shared a personal experience to underscore the value of such medical centers. “My 90-year-old father-in-law had a botched knee surgery in New York, but it was successfully corrected at the FMC in Ebute Meta, Lagos. This illustrates the quality of care these facilities provide,” he said, adding that the Vice Chairman, Hon. Owolomose, could attest to this.
He further revealed that plans are already in motion to establish a school of nursing as part of the FMC’s development, with strong support from the Oloja of Epe Land and Governor’s approval of available land spaces.
“We must appreciate the efforts of our Minister of State for Health. Having someone from our community in such a position has been advantageous, and we are grateful to Mr. President and the Governor for their support,” Rep. Raji said.
In his remarks at Epe Constituency 2, he reeled out his account of stewardship in the constituency especially with the assurance of completing all ongoing projects including new ones proposed for construction.
Rep. Raji addressed farmers in his constituencies, affirming his ongoing support. “To our farmers, rest assured, I am still with you. In fact, I am no longer the Chairman of the House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals; I now lead the House Committee on Agriculture Livestock Development,” he announced, signaling his commitment to advancing agricultural initiatives.
Rep. Raji’s address resonated with optimism, outlining collaborative efforts across various sectors to enhance the socioeconomic well-being of Epe Local Government, Eredo and Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA. His remarks highlighted ongoing projects in agriculture, healthcare, and energy, promising a brighter future for the community.
