kakalistiq.com reports that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to construct the much-anticipated Lekki-Epe Link Bridge and provide solar power systems across Lagos State tertiary institutions.

Governor Babajide Sanwoolu

Speaking via his official Facebook handle Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday morning, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of robust transport infrastructure to the state’s development. “Good roads and efficient transport systems are the backbone of our growth in Lagos,” said Sanwo-Olu. “This MoU with CCECC marks a major step in realizing our vision for the Lekki-Epe axis and beyond.”

The Lekki-Epe Link Bridge is part of Lagos State’s strategic transport master plan, which aims to enhance key road networks, reduce traffic congestion, and support economic activities across the state. “Our transport master plan is more than just a document; it’s a promise to every Lagosian that we are committed to making daily commuting less stressful and boosting our economy,” the governor added.

Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that discussions have been ongoing to award the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract to CCECC, and that preliminary feasibility and design studies have already been completed.

In a separate agreement, Governor Sanwo-Olu also signed an MoU for the provision of solar power systems in Lagos tertiary institutions, including Lagos State University (LASU) and its campuses, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine.

“These solar systems will generate around 50 MW of clean, affordable energy, providing a reliable power source for our institutions,” noted Sanwo-Olu. “This initiative highlights our commitment to sustainable energy as a cornerstone of our economic growth strategy.”

The signing ceremony was witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who praised the initiatives as forward-thinking projects that align with Lagos State’s vision of a modern, sustainable metropolis.
