Board Chairman commends preparedness, calls for urgency in addressing lapses as Lagos schools resume for a new term
As Lagos State public primary schools reopened for a new academic term, kakalistiq.com reports that the Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr. Hakeem Shittu, led a surprise inspection tour across several schools in the state, setting the tone for discipline, dedication, and high standards in the weeks ahead.

Dr. Shittu, accompanied by top LASUBEB officials, paid unscheduled visits to primary schools across multiple local government areas, including several institutions under the Ikeja Local Government Education Authority. Schools inspected included Military Cantonment Primary School, Military Primary School, Army Children School, Army Barracks Primary School, Army Model School, Nine Brigade Primary School, and Brigade Primary School.
The purpose of the visit, it was gathered, was to get a firsthand look at the level of preparedness, ensure student and teacher punctuality, inspect school facilities, and show pupils and staff that government oversight is active and responsive.
“We must continue to uphold the highest standards in our public primary schools. Today’s visit is not only to inspect but to encourage both our teachers and pupils to embrace the new term with renewed energy and commitment,” Dr. Shittu averred.
While the LASUBEB Chairman commended several schools for their impressive readiness, he also made it clear that gaps in performance and preparation would not be overlooked. He urged underperforming schools to act swiftly to address deficiencies and align with the state’s expectations for basic education.
Dr. Shittu also highlighted the Lagos State Government’s ongoing investments in teacher training, improved infrastructure, and learning materials, stating that quality education can only thrive in a disciplined and supportive environment.
“We are committed to ensuring our schools are safe, supportive, and academically enriching. The welfare of our pupils and the continued empowerment of our teachers remain top priorities,” he assured.
As pupils filed into classrooms and teachers resumed their duties, the Chairman’s visit served as a timely reminder that the pursuit of educational excellence in Lagos is a shared responsibility, one that demands presence, punctuality, and pride in service.
With school gates now reopened and learning in full swing, LASUBEB’s message was loud and clear: every new term is a new opportunity, and everyone must be ready to rise to the challenge.
