UK’s Jane Setter, Nigeria’s Egbokhare to Headline Sessions as LASUED’s COLCAED Gears Up for Maiden International Conference.

As part of its commitment to deepening academic scholarship and driving global educational relevance, kakalistiq.com reports that the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), through its College of Languages and Communication Arts Education (COLCAED), is set to host its maiden international conference.

The event, which promises to be a significant academic milestone, will run from Monday, August 25 to Thursday, August 28, 2025, at LASUED’s Odo-Noforija, Epe Campus, with a hybrid format for both in-person and virtual participants.

Themed “Language, Literature, Communication, and Education in a Changing World: Innovations, Challenges, and the Future,” the conference seeks to explore emerging shifts in how we use and study language, literature, and communication, especially within digital environments, AI-led transformations, multilingual settings, and global education systems.

Prominent global scholars are billed to headline the sessions, including Professor Jane Setter, a Phonetics expert from the University of Reading, UK, and Professor Francis Egbokhare, a celebrated linguist from the University of Ibadan. Their participation has sparked growing anticipation across academic circles.

Prof. Jane Setter

Jane Setter is a renowned Professor of Phonetics at the University of Reading. Best known as co-editor of the Cambridge English Pronouncing Dictionary (2011), she has also authored Your Voice Speaks Volumes (OUP 2019) and co-edited several handbooks, including the Cambridge Handbook of Phonetics (2022). Her research focuses on speech prosody, Global Englishes, and pronunciation in children with language differences. She is a National Teaching Fellow and an advocate of public engagement in research.

Prof. Francis Egbokhare

Francis Egbokhare, a seasoned Professor of Linguistics, has held that title since 1999 at the University of Ibadan. He is a former President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters and currently serves as President of the Open Distance and e-Learning Association of Nigeria. Prof. Egbokhare has served on several high-level academic boards, received numerous awards, and has been a visiting scholar in the US and Europe. He is also a Fellow of multiple professional associations.
