Among the distinguished guests was Rep. Wale Raji, representing Epe Federal Constituency, who stood proudly amidst Lagos’ crème de la crème to pay tribute to the late Oba Kosoko—a king whose reign was marked by both prosperity and challenges.

Titled “The Lagos Economy in the Era of King Kosoko: A Talent of Prosperity and Decline,” the lecture delivered by seasoned scholars of history offered a deep dive into the labor, courage, and resilience of Oba Kosoko, a remarkable leader who left an indelible mark on Lagos’ history.

The event, rich with historical insights and reflections, served as both a memorial and a call to action, urging attendees to draw inspiration from the past to shape the future.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Mrs. Lola Ade-John; National Population Commissioner, Barrister Olayinka Oladunjoye; Erelu Kuti IV of Lagos, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu, and Prince Tajudeen Olusi (CON, MON).

Royal fathers such as the Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, the Onito Omu of Ito Omu, Serikin Fulani of Lagos, members of Epe Ogunmodede Club, Olu-Epe-in-Council Chiefs graced the occasion, reflecting the deep ties between tradition and governance in Lagos’ vibrant culture.

Rep. Wale Raji applauded the organizers, led by the Oloja-Elect of Lagos, Prince Abiola Kosoko, for bringing to life an event that celebrated Lagos’ rich heritage and highlighted the king’s contributions to the city’s economic evolution.

Reflecting on the significance of such memorial lectures, Rep. Raji noted, “Memorials and book launches dedicated to great royal fathers like Oba Kosoko are more than just celebrations; they are essential for preserving our history, honoring those who paved the way, and aligning their legacies with our present-day goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These events not only celebrate the past but also serve as blueprints for future generations.”

He urged community leaders and stakeholders to follow the Kosoko family’s example, preserving their heritage and culture to ensure that the stories of their ancestors remain alive.

“It is through such dedication that we keep our history vibrant and inspire those coming behind us to cherish and uphold the values of our forebears,” he concluded, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation in the culturally-diverse and ever-evolving landscape of Lagos.
