In a jubilant display of unity and pride, Epe indigenes recently gathered for the maiden edition of a remarkable get-together event, where ancestral ties and professional excellence took center stage.
Held at Epe Recreation Center Hall on June 29th, 2023, Kakalistiq media reports that the vibrant atmosphere was filled with excitement and camaraderie as Epe indigenes from various sectors of the Lagos State public service came together to celebrate their shared heritage, highlighting the importance of professionalism while fostering a strong sense of community and promoting the pursuit of excellence in their respective careers.
Speaking during her welcome address, Dr Abiodun Onayele, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment ably represented by Mrs. Bunmi Mofunlewi Director of Administration and Human Resources, Lagos Ferry Service, LAGFERRY, highlighted the significance of engendering unity within the culturally diverse climate of the Epe community.
She stressed the need for the indigenes to promote excellence in service as a crucial factor for their personal growth and the overall development of the state. Her words resonated with the attendees, reinforcing the importance of dedication and commitment to their respective roles.
“We must embrace unity in our culturally-diverse Epe community. By working together with a shared sense of purpose, we can achieve remarkable personal outcomes and contribute to the growth and development of our state. I will advise that the forum be all-inclusive and consultations be made,” she said.
Another senior official, Mr. Kadri Olorunsanu captivated the gathering with his memorable experience in public service. He shared how his prolific speech-writing skills propelled him to the Office of the former first lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu. His anecdote served as an inspiration to the attendees, highlighting the impact of exemplary work and dedication.
“I remember the day I was informed that my speech got the First Lady thunderous applause at an event. This led to my appointment in the office of Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu even when my superiors were reluctant. It taught me the power of excellence and dedication in the public service. Let us strive for greatness in our roles and leave a lasting impact on our community, he said.”
Addressing a misconception among some indigenous people, the lecturer of the day, Dr. Awe Jamiu Abiodun, Chairman, of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), Alausa chapter, Lagos clarified that the get-together had no religious undertone. Rather, he said it was organized as a homecoming event to coincide with the Ileya festival, extending the celebration to all and sundry. He, however, charged members of the forum to go for further studies for personal competence and career advancement.
The coordinator of the Forum, Mr. Adetomiwa Akodu took the gathering on a journey that traced the birth of the organization. He revealed that retired elders from the service had initiated the idea, although they were unable to see it to fruition. Nevertheless, they encouraged the present members to forge ahead. He, therefore, pledged to address any concerns or areas for improvement raised by the attendees.
The event surpassed expectations, leaving attendees fulfilled and invigorated. It provided a platform for unwinding, networking, and connecting with colleagues from various departments, ministries, and agencies. Participants, for the first time, discovered the ancestral ties they shared with their colleagues, creating a stronger sense of community and unity.
