Lagos State Governor Applauded for Transformative Investments in Education at Y2023 Teachers Merit Award Ceremony

Kakalistiq.com reports that the Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Education District III, Dr. Idowu Oyetola, has commended the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s visionary leadership in the education sector in the district.

In a resounding welcome delivered in Epe on Thursday, January 11th, 2023, at the Y2023 Lagos State Education District III Teachers Merit Award ceremony, she notably acknowledged the Governor’s strides while also celebrating the exceptional contributions of educators with a notable

The colourful event saw the presence of the Guest Speaker, Associate Professor Nosiru Olajide Onibon, former Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Hon. Fariu Arebi, former Chairman of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Mr. Abayomi Abolaji (Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education), and representatives of the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education.

Other notable dignitaries include traditional rulers, which include the Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu Kingdom, HRM Oba Babatunde Aderibigbe, representatives of Alara of Ilara Kingdom, High Chief Balogun Adeoye (Ikeji-Ilu), Chief Afuye Oluwaseun (Akeweje), representatives of Aladeshonyin and Paramount Ruler of Odo-Noforija Kingdom, Chief Musiliu Badejo (Odofin), and former Lagos APC Welfare Secretary, Alhaja Ramota Bankole.

Dr Oyetola expressed heartfelt congratulations to the honoured educators, acknowledging their pivotal role in shaping an enlightened society. She emphasized the profound impact of great teachers, describing them as the souls of societal enlightenment and custodians of the most precious gift: children.

Highlighting the Lagos State Governor’s giant strides in education, Dr. Oyetola said, “I commend and appreciate Mr Governor “Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu” in his fatherly love for the huge investment made in the education sector of the state.” These include the distribution of IBILE mobile tablets to classroom teachers and Android phones to students, as well as the establishment of an iconic school building at Ogombo for the Ogombo Community Senior Secondary School in Ajah, Eti-Osa LGA.

The Tutor-General further commended the governor for achievements such as the trailblazing representation of students from Community Junior Secondary School Elemoro, Ibeju-Lekki, in Education District III, at the World Robotics Competition in Panama.

She also acknowledged the governor’s efforts in enhancing co-curricular activities, exemplified by Education District III’s back-to-back victories in The Chess for Change Competition and the approval granted for the allocation of housing units to teachers in schools located in the remote area of Imota, Agbowa, in Epe LGA.

Dr. Oyetola extended her appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Hon. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, acknowledging his unwavering support for the education sector. The Tutor-General applauded the dedication of the Y2023 Lagos State Education District III Teachers Merit Award Nomination Committee, recognizing the challenge of selecting winners from a pool of remarkably talented teachers and administrators.

 

Dr. Oyetola encouraged all teachers, even those not receiving awards, acknowledging their fantastic performances and urge them to persevere in their pursuit of excellence. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the teachers honoured and to educators across the state who quietly devote their lives to inspiring future generations.
