Senior Legislative Aide Calls for Accountability Ahead of 2025 Lagos State LG/LCDA Elections

In a thought-provoking statement shared across various WhatsApp platforms, Kakalistiq.com reports that Mr. Hassan Bashir, popularly known as General Bashexy, has raised concerns regarding the re-election of underperforming Local Government (LG) and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairmen in Lagos State, highlighting the potential implications for grassroots governance and the political landscape leading up to the 2027 General Election.

Lagos State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu.

Mr. Hassan, Senior Legislative Aide to Rep. Wale Raji, representing Epe Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, highlighted the importance of holding political officeholders accountable for their performance, asserting that allowing underperformers to remain in office could perpetuate inefficiency and erode trust in the political system. He emphasized that the electorate should prioritize candidates who demonstrate accountability, effectiveness, responsiveness to constituents’ needs, and a commitment to serving the public interest.

Lagos State Deputy Governor, His Excellency Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.

“The performance of a political officeholder should indeed be a key factor in determining their re-election. Good performance demonstrates accountability, effectiveness, responsiveness to constituents’ needs, and the ability to fulfil the duties of the office. It reflects a commitment to serving the public and achieving positive outcomes for society. We have to ensure that those in power are of high standards and that the electorate’s interests are prioritized. This would obviously have an effect on the 2027 general election.”

Echoing his sentiments, Mr Hassan proposed barring underperforming political officeholders from holding future positions, particularly those who exhibit a lack of accountability and fail to deliver on their promises and responsibilities to their constituents.

“Our political leaders must carefully consider past performances and antecedents when deciding whether to re-elect any of the chairmen,” Mr. Hassan emphasized. “This call to action is not intended to target any specific chairman, as many are culpable. It is imperative that we hold our leaders accountable for their actions and prioritize the welfare of the electorate.”

As the 2025 Lagos State LG/LCDA elections draw closer, General Bashexy’s message serves as a wake-up call for political leaders to prioritize accountability and effective governance to build trust and confidence among the electorate and pave the way for positive political outcomes in the future.
