In a landmark event that signals a new chapter in healthcare delivery for Lagos, kakalistiq.com reports that the Epe General Hospital has officially become the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Epe, following the signing of a transformative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday.
The agreement, which took place at the prestigious Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island, was signed by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
The MoU is not just a symbolic gesture but a tangible commitment to providing cutting-edge medical services in Epe. Governor Sanwo-Olu, who signed on behalf of Lagos State, remarked, “This project highlights our commitment to improving healthcare across all communities in Lagos. With the support of the Federal Government, the people of Epe will now have access to world-class facilities.”
Rep. Wale Raji, who represents the Epe Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives is an integral part of the initiative that will see the facility upgraded to a world-class medical center capable of handling specialized care.
The Chairman, House Committee on Sustainable Development Goals provided effective legislative backing for the process, which was instrumental in securing the necessary approvals in the House.
“The transformation of Epe General Hospital into a Federal Medical Center marks a monumental leap forward for healthcare in this region,” Raji said. “This is a shining example of how intergovernmental collaboration can achieve remarkable results for nation-building.”
The Federal Medical Center, Epe will offer specialized care across various disciplines, including:
Paediatric care: Complete with a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for high-risk infants.
Advanced Surgical Care: Including highly specialized procedures like open-heart surgeries.
Obstetric and Gynaecological Services: Offering care for high-risk pregnancies and advanced gynecological treatments.
Emergency and Trauma Centre: A world-class facility equipped to handle critical trauma cases.
Nephrology Services: Including dialysis and kidney transplants.
Radiological Services: Featuring advanced diagnostic tools like CAT scans and MRI.
Orthopaedic Care: Offering specialized spinal procedures.
Burns and Plastic Surgery: Providing comprehensive treatment for burns and reconstructive surgeries.
The facility will also be home to the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (FEDCAM), offering courses in acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, and chiropractic medicine. Students will complete their clinical training at the new medical center, further integrating the institution into the fabric of the community.
Additionally, plans are underway to establish a School of Nursing at the center, aimed at grooming the next generation of healthcare professionals.
