A group of Epe youths, the Lagos State Youth Ambassadors, Epe Division, have seized the helm of an incredible World Ocean Day advocacy campaign and clean-up effort in a captivating demonstration of unrelenting dedication and profound environmental conscience.
Under the enthralling theme of the United Nations, “Planet Ocean: Tides Are Shifting,” these innovative young leaders are prepared to unleash a tidal wave of transformation, uncovering the huge tourism potential that lies within their underwater haven.
On Thursday 8th June 2023, Kakalistiq media witnessed firsthand the awe-inspiring power of the youngsters and the wonderful future they are making for their town and the globe through the trailblazing project at the culturally significant Epe Marina waterfront stretch.
Ambassador Giwa Omotomiwa, Team Lead of the Epe Division of the Lagos State Youth Ambassadors, spoke with Kakalistiq media and expressed her unbridled joy and gratitude for the amazing turnout of enthusiastic volunteers and the intense excitement that surrounds the advocacy program and clean-up exercise. Suave Records’ participation as the project’s prestigious sponsor, she continued, “lit a fire within the team.” She reckons this would create an invincible force working together to protect priceless aquatic treasures in Epe town.
“It was an insightful experience for everyone because we were opportune to conduct some sensitizations around the neighborhoods. Lagos is a city surrounded by water and as much as Epe is known to be the fish basket of Lagos, then we can say that in Epe, our water is our heritage.
“The maintenance and the cleanliness of the water should be our priority, especially to those that acquire their daily source of living and income from the water. According to research, water produces 50% of the air we breathe, it provides proteins to over 1 billion people around the world and it employs over 400 million persons.
“And for the people of Epe, we are so proud to have these magnificent resources at our use and in our immediate community. With Suave Records’ backing and the unwavering dedication of our passionate volunteers, we stand ready to make waves of positive change that will reverberate throughout the Epe community and far beyond,” she said.
Speaking with Kaklistiq media about his decision to collaborate with the youths, the CEO of Suave Records, Mr. Bashir Hassan expressed his deep admiration for their unwavering dedication and their unyielding belief in the potential of their community. He emphasized the urgent need to redirect the focus of the youth towards issues that transcend the realms of entertainment and sports, highlighting the critical importance of environmental stewardship for the future.
