To address the needs and challenges faced by young boys in Epe, kakalistiq.com reports that the office of Comrade Odunare Mahruf, representative of Lagos State Youth Parliament, Epe Constituency I, is set to commemorate the 2024 edition of International Boy’s Child Day with the launch of the Epe Boys Safe Space project.
Themed “Eyin ni di akuko: Empowering Tomorrow’s Men,” the event is scheduled for Saturday, May 18th, 2024, at the Epe Local Government Council Chambers, Ita-Marun, Epe, alongside an online advocacy campaign. The esteemed Chief Host will be Hon. Abiodun Tobun, the representative of Epe Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, while the Project Lead will be Ambassador Rahmon Saheed, a prominent figure known for his impactful initiatives within Epe Division as the coordinator of Lagos Youth Ambassadors.
Ambassador Rahmon Saheed, speaking on the significance of the project, stated, “In Yoruba culture, ‘Eyin ni di akuko’ signifies the transformative journey from an egg to a cockerel, symbolizing the boy-child’s potential for positive growth and contribution to society. Through the Epe Boys Safe Space project, we aim to provide mentorship and support to empower our boys, steering them away from negative influences and guiding them towards a path of responsibility and respect.”
Highlighting the objectives of the initiative, Comrade Odunare Mahruf emphasized the importance of addressing the overlooked needs of young boys in society. “Our mission is to cultivate a nurturing environment for our boys, offering guidance on various aspects of life, including mental health, career development, and civic responsibilities. Together, we can rewrite the narrative and nurture our boys into responsible and respected members of society,” he stated.
The 15-day online advocacy campaign, set to commence tonight, seeks support from individuals within the constituency and beyond.
