Abiodun Tobun, the dedicated Member representing Epe Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, in a resounding show of support and unity, has thrown his full weight behind the dynamic leadership of Epe Local Government Chairman, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun at a stakeholders meeting held at the LG Secretariat in Ita-Marun on Thursday, August 30, 2023.
Hon. Tobun’s steadfast endorsement comes in the wake of Chairman Animashaun’s stellar account of stewardship in the past two years and the unveiling of a groundbreaking achievement – the construction of a state-of-the-art multipurpose hall.
Addressing the assembly, Hon. Abiodun Tobun lauded the local administration’s dedication to the socioeconomic advancement of Epe and firmly stood by the Chairman’s side, stating, “Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. It is not easy to lead because you will encounter some dissenting voices and you may not be able to please everybody. So, Chairman, you tried, and I sincerely commend you.”
Tobun stressed the significance of the stakeholder meeting in addressing the criticisms that had been levied against the administration, stating that such forums create awareness and provide the people with an in-depth understanding of the monumental strides being taken in governance. “It gladdens my heart to be a part of this program; we know what you are doing, and the only way you can inform the people is through forums like this,” he remarked.
While acknowledging the significance of critics in strengthening democracy, Hon Tobun cautioned that criticism should be sincere and constructive. Drawing from political history, he highlighted the potential for fierce critics to falter when in leadership positions, referencing iconic activist Tai Solarin and the People’s Bank loan repayment saga during Gen. Ibrahim Babangida’s regime. “Don’t take criticism personally; what can be done is to encourage and advise her, and she should also improve on the gray areas observed by the critics. Step up and do more,” he retorted.
Hon. Tobun encouraged counselors across the wards of the LG to embrace the stakeholder meeting strategy as a means of resolving various issues affecting their constituents. With the LG’s collaboration with Rep. Wale Raji, he also assured market traders that the newly constructed clamp shops would be allotted to the previous tenants in accordance with the Market Construction and Allocation provisions in the 4th schedule of the amended 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a momentous development, Princess Animashaun and Hon. Tobun led the community stakeholders on an inspection tour of ongoing rehabilitation works at the council secretariat. The highlight of the day was the groundbreaking ceremony for the modern Multipurpose Hall, a project set to be completed in six months, as confirmed by Mr. Tolu Egbeyemi, General Manager of A&D Design & Build Construction Ltd.
