Senator Abiru Honored for Exemplary Service, Joins Elite Ranks in Ikorodu Hall of Fame

In a remarkable ceremony held at Ikorodu Town Hall, kakalistiq.com reports that Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, was officially inducted into the prestigious Ikorodu Division Hall of Fame. The induction, organized by the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG), celebrated Senator Abiru’s exceptional contributions to the development of the Ikorodu division and the larger Lagos East Senatorial District.

Senator Abiru, recognized alongside other distinguished personalities, received the honor for his significant impact on the region. Notable inductees included HRM Oba Engr. Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Adegorushe V, The Ayangbure of Ikorodu Kingdom, HRM Oba Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, FCA, The Ranodu of Imota, and several others who have played pivotal roles in the progress of the Ikorodu division.

The event marked a historic moment as Senator Abiru followed in the footsteps of his late father, Honourable Justice Mubasheer Akanbi Olatunji Abiru, who was admitted into the Ikorodu Hall of Fame in 1993. Senator Abiru, through his professional excellence, accomplishments in private and public service, and substantial contributions to Ikorodu’s development, solidified his place in the revered Hall of Fame.

During the ceremony, Senator Abiru demonstrated his commitment to education and human capital development by donating N5 million to IDRDG initiatives.

A distinguished banker, Senator Abiru served as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank Limited, overseeing the successful turnaround of the erstwhile SkyeBank Plc. His illustrious banking career included roles at First Bank of Nigeria and Guaranty Trust Bank. He held positions on notable boards as a non-executive director, contributing to the financial sector’s stability.

In his professional journey, Senator Abiru also served as the Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Lagos State, from 2011 to 2013, under the transformative leadership of Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).

A highly educated individual, Senator Abiru holds a B.Sc. in Economics from Lagos State University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (FCIB). He is an alumnus of both Lagos Business School (LBS) and Harvard Business School (USA).

Retiring from banking in August 2020, Senator Abiru ventured into public service and contested and won the Lagos East Senatorial District bye-election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has since redefined governance in the Lagos East Senatorial District, securing overwhelming re-election on February 25, 2023, for another four-year term at the National Assembly. Senator Abiru is happily married to Mrs. Feyisola Abiru, and they are blessed with children.
