POCACOV Launch: Senator Abiru Urges Collective Action Against Cultism for Education and Economy

Kakalistiq.com reports that the distinguished Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has emphasized the urgency to combat social vices for the advancement of education and the economy.

He disclosed this at the Epe POCACOV Launch and Summit, organized by the Nigerian Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCAVOC) in collaboration with the Alara of Ilara Kingdom.

As the Chairman of the Occasion, Senator Abiru lauded the visionary leadership of the Alara of Ilara, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Olukayode Ogunsanwo, and the entire Ilara Kingdom and Epe Division. The event’s theme, Cultism: A Menace and Threat to Education and the Economy, resonates with the contemporary challenges faced by society.

In a goodwill message delivered by the Senator’s representative, Comrade Mahruf Odunare, the impact of cultism on communities, including property destruction, hindrances to infrastructure development, harassment, and molestation, was underscored. The ripple effect on socioeconomic development and community well-being was emphasized.

‘It is imperative that we combat these societal ills for the progress of education and the economy. The theme of the summit, ‘Cultism: A Menace and Threat to Education and Economy,’ resonates deeply with the challenges we face today. The visionary leadership of the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, alongside the collective efforts of the good people of Epe, is commendable in addressing this menace. As legislators, we play a vital role in safeguarding our youth from the destructive impact of cultism, drug abuse, and other vices, ensuring a conducive environment for education and economic growth,” he said.

Addressing the students and youth, the representative highlighted Senator Abiru’s commitment to innovation and technology as key components of his interventions. The Senator’s passion for these areas is embodied in the Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL), a pioneering innovation hub in the Lagos East Senatorial District. SAIL focuses on human capital development, preparing young people for opportunities in the digital economy of the 4th industrial age.

Through various programs, the Senator Abiru Innovation Lab has positively impacted 4,313 lives within 20 months. The representative expressed Senator Abiru’s commendation for the collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Police and the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, acknowledging their relentless work to ensure the event’s success.

His noble participation underscores the vital role senators play as lawmakers in safeguarding young people from the menace of cultism, drug abuse, and other vices. Senator Abiru’s proactive initiatives, including SAIL, exemplify the commitment needed to secure a future free from social vices for the Lagos East Senatorial District youth.
