LASUBEB Chairman Encourages Agricultural Interest Among Primary School Pupils

Kakalistiq.com reports that the Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr. Shittu, has encouraged pupils in public primary schools to develop an interest in agriculture. The call came during a field tour of Erikorodo Poultry Estate, Erikorodo Ikorodu, organized by LASUBEB and the Universal Basic Education Commission on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

The excursion, part of the Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP), aimed to enhance the practical experience of fish and livestock farming for both teachers and pupils across the twenty local government education authorities in Lagos State.

Dr. Shittu emphasized the importance of cascading the knowledge acquired during the farm tour to schools, intending to revive agricultural practices in Lagos schools. He urged teachers to capitalize on the tour’s benefits for the overall educational development of the pupils.

During the tour, Mr. Damilola Oluwajimi, Poultry Instructor at Pentagon Poultry, guided the pupils through the various aspects of breeding, feeding, rearing, and nurturing birds. He highlighted the lucrative and diverse nature of poultry farming, shedding light on the possibilities of rearing various livestock such as birds, pigs, snails, and cattle on both large and small scales.

Mr. Oluwajimi discussed the challenges and benefits of poultry farming, noting its capital-intensive and sensitive nature. Mrs. Ajalogun, the supervisor of the Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP), encouraged the children to acquire more knowledge in agriculture, emphasizing its continuous nature and significant contribution to the nation’s development.

The field tour served as a practical platform for pupils to gain insights into agricultural practices, fostering a deeper understanding and interest in the field.
